Hello everybody, I wonder if i got a 10 top position in google for a highly competetive keyword, how long does it take for that position to change for better or worse? i.e. how often does google update results revelaed for certain keyword? Thanks
It has nothing to do with when Google updates, it has to do whether you or competitors drop links therefor lose position.
There are multiple reasons why a page would go up or down, you just have to keep plugging away adding new content and links and submitting articles and so on, not much point in thinking about it, if you have something people want to read it will go up in the end
Thank you guys for your replies, but you didn't tell me how long does it take to lose the position if let's say i didn't update my website?
It will stay there at plus or minus 3 positions if there is no change. I suggest you focus on the homepage for SERP. Try to get as high as possible. Once there, don't move an inch, don't update, no new content. The content has to be on inner pages only. I have a site with one page and I update every monday a part of it and the monday-tuesday is the least amount of traffic. On day I was surprised to see a very good monday and tuesday, I didn't update. I forgot. I updated the thursday. Thursday-friday as been bad...
So you suggest that i don't update the homepage because this will make me lose postion, and instead update my inner pages just to make the SEs feel that my website is dynamic and informative? And this way my website homepage (which is at top 10) will never lose its position?
You results will stay for a while, but don't expect them to go up that is for sure. Keep doing your good job and your ranking will stay high and attract traffic.
First, thanks max80 for your answer. touches93, i understand, but does that mean that google updates the results everyday so i will lose my position one day after other websites become better than mine?
If your competitor did a great job on promoting and building links, you will lose your position no time...
It depends mostly on one factor -- competition, it is obvious, if your site/blog about something very specific and unique and no one write about it then you can stay for some time in top 10, but if competition is rather high then it requires appropriate efforts
Yes. Make your homepage as SERP friendly as possibe. Once you're on top, leave it. Work on your inner pages instead, accessible through your homepage's links...
I think you need to update your content & keep your site's pr.I have a site which is ranked #5, i will get more high pr for that site.
