Thank you for your entries, tbh. Similar to my comments above to tmash for their first entry, I am looking for a more professional looking logo. I applaud your creativity in moving away from images other than just the shape of Massachusetts, but the images are too simple for my taste and the fonts do not communciate "professional". Thanks again for taking time to submit your ideas.
I completely understand your dedication to finding just the right logo, but I thought I should mention similar products at any decent design firm would make your asking price look insignificant at best. I would keep this in mind when critiquing these entries. Although you will inevitably get close to what you expect, just thought I would throw that out there on behalf of these hardworking designers.
Thank you for your comments, pixel3. I certainly understand where you are coming from and am really offering critiques from the point of view of trying to help other designers with their entries or for someone so inclined to improve the one they submit. I realize that the price offered is insignificant compared to going direct to any designer and sincerely appreciate any and all efforts of everyone submitting a design. However there is also a good chance that I will use the winning designer for future design work at market rates. So with that said, thank you once again to all that have submitted designs and for those contemplating doing so. I am new to this forum, so please forgive me if it seems as if I am overstepping my bounds or seem to be demanding. I truly am offerring direction from the standpoint of trying to help with the design so forgive me if my comments have come off unappreciative or harsh. Out of curiosity, would it be better for me just to sit back and not offer feedback and comments and let the contest take its course?
No, you have done no wrong. The harsher the critique, no matter how good the designer or the design, will do nothing but push that designer to better themselves and overcome the situation. There's nothing you could do more right than to offer detailed critiques. However, it is also good to know your limits, and where you stand. I wasn't sure if you knew where you stood and how you can be portrayed from someone else's perspective. Nothing wrong with anything you've done, just don't want anyone to get taken advantage of. I'm sure you understand what I'm saying. I know this is probably coming off in a way that I didn't originally intend so I'm going to stop now, haha. And this is only my opinion, I don't speak for everyone.
Thanks for your additional entry, tmash. Any other takers? It would be great to see some other designer's logo interpretations. Thanks.
A little more detail would help me out. I know the first one is a bit too playful and not proffessional, I don't see what specifically is wrong with the light house ones. Also if you have any other symbol ideas for massachusets I might be able to make more concepts ..
After doing a little of my own research, here's my design proposals: 100% original and vector. Thanks for the contest, J
Second Concept Idea (Note: Most Government & Military Branches utilize a French/Latin translation "E.G. U.S.M.C. - Semper Fidelis = Always Faithful", So I incorporated this recognition technique into the Logo Using "Confiance Integrite Honnetete" = Confidence, Integrity, Honesty.) The above is the plain print version, More of A web 2.0 version can also be delivered if requested
Hi tbh. There is nothing wrong per se with the logos you created, just my opinion that they are a little too casual for what I am looking to convey. I will be using the logo in a professional manner in the residential mortgage financing arena, so it is important to convey a serious image as I want to communicate the values of trust, integrity and honesty to potential clients. A whimsical-type logo would not be appropriate for this while it may be perfectly fine for another type of business. Whenever money is involved, it is important in my opinion to be serious minded. Does that make sense? As regards other Massachusetts symbols, take a look at the extensive list that I provided in a previous post. If you are looking for direction in the type of logo I am looking for, take a look at the logos submitted by xpressions and tmash (tmash's latest MA outline/shield logo and minuteman logo). Hope that helps.
