In wordpress blogs, what's the best permalinks structure to use SEO wise? Is just using the post name better than having a date or category in the URL ?
I think it depends on the content of your site, if you have two completely different categories in terms of content, I personally prefer separating them.
Well, they will be split into categories but should the category be included in the permalink? I mean, I'll never get two pages with the same name.
I think so long as you don't have an excessive amount of categories, like /blah/blah2/blah3/blah4/article-name .. it's a good idea to include it to separate content, not only for users to be able to browse the category, but also just for sanity of the link structure. That's just personal preference though.. I don't think there's necessarily any benefit either way.
Personally, I like to do both the category name, and the post name. This gives you a better shot at having a url that's relevant to the content, and that can help with search engines, although only moderately.
In which case you'll want to use the Category Base Killer plugin alongside the All-In-One SEO Pack, KB Robots.txt and Enforce .www Preference plugins.
Thanks a lot for those plugins, they seem to be what I was after. I'm not sure about the category base killer though, because it does the same thing as All-In-One SEO Pack. So this also means that it's better not to get the categories and tags pages indexed to avoid duplicate content ?
I wrote a article about URL structure yesterday, take a look and let me know what you think! http://www.graphixdot.com/2007/12/19/subpage-url-structure/
