They have broken the South American hold on the Championship. Sao Paulo won it in 2005 and Internacional did it in 2006. Milan did what Barcelona and Liverpool could not do .

Didn't watch it, never really interested in this tournament, but good to see AC Milan won it and brought the trophy back to Europe :)

The best South Americans play in Europe anyway, like Kaka and Dida, not to mention Ronaldiniho and Messi, and too many mroe to mention.

Before that it was Cannavaro, Buffon, Zidane.

Not very south American to me.

Yea maybe so, But Lionel Messi has Italian extraction. So does Kaka [Italian or portuguese anyway] And as for Christiano Ronaldo who got 3rd he is Portuguese

Zidane is Algerian born, Edgar Davids was born in South America, Dessailles was born in Ghana so parentage doesn't count, they're still South Americans. Besides, my point is that the best South Americans play in Europe, the not so good ones, or the ones that are too young/old play in South America.

I cant believe Wikipedia says that - I'm off to edit it and perhaps give myself a backlink :p

In other news, Messi tipped Ronaldo for second spot - I still cant believe it; not because I'm a ManU fan, but because Ronaldo really played some great football last season. Messi was good, but obviously not good enough - think its because the national coaches voted.

French born. Algerian Parents. - YES.

    Algerian Born - NO.

Trust me friend. If the Wiki lied then someone would of changed it already.

Kaka is Brazilian born, And he has a Italian passport and Citizenship. But we dont class him as Italian. Even because of his Italian heritage.

Zidane is French. And so is anyone who plays for France. Who they choose to play for is there nationality.

A.C Milan are simply class. And always have been.

Kaka, Ronaldo, Nesta, Gilardino, Inzaghi. And a 12 billion pounds chairman.
