Well just getting ready to launch a new website geared towards photoshop tutorials, and was wondering what is the best way to optimize my wordpress website for seo, I am somewhat new to seo so any tips would be greatly appreciated. just for future thought www [dot] photoshop-ed [dot] com is the url to my website, the template that I am working on is about 90% done on my home pc and 50% what you see. so if anyone is a guru with wordpress and has any tips my thanks is offered.
well does anyone know of any kind of plugins geared specially towards the project that I am going for?.
here is my advices: - dont use the default permalinks. use something different. i suggest you use /%category%/%postname%/ - in single.php, replace the <h2> tag for post title with <h1> tag. - use all in one seo pack plugin. i don't use it buy they said it is helpful. - make sure your theme is valid xhtml and css good luck. -cypher.
Not all, but most. You're also going to want a sitemap plugin similar to the one offered by Dagon Design (in fact, I'd use that one if you're not worried about the link back to their site). Note I'm not talking about an XML sitemap - but one your human readers can use as well.
Thanks for the help guys. Downloading it all now. Hopefully it will help drive in some non-stumbleupon traffic
A lot of great tips in this thread, I learned at least 3 things already that I'm going to start working on. Thanks
well thanks for all the information guys, i was thinking about the seo plugin, and never even thought about the sitemap plugin, looking into widgetizing my footer as well.
The Ultimate Tag Warrior is also a good one, it allows you to configure your tags manually on a page by page basis instead of them being generated automatically. I actually hack my Wordpress code so my Titles are just "Postname" instead of the "Blogname >> Categoryname >> Postname" format because that is utter junk. You want your Postname first because this is the most important part of the Title, and i like to keep them short and relevant so they pack a punch. Also if your Blog name and Category name is long, your Titles can get cut off in the SERP's and not even display the actual post name. They can also become spammy, if your Blog is called SEO Blog and you write a post How to SEO and put it in the SEO category you will end up with: "SEO Blog >> SEO >> How to SEO" (50% KWD)
Doesn't it? Thanks for the info, i havn't used it in quite a while because i hack my code manually as mentioned above, but i do recommend it to people as an easy way to control their tags without getting their "hands dirty" with coding. Ok then, the other good tag control i've used that works for 2.3 (just double checked) is SEO Title Tag plugin.
thanks for the nice tip... but I just wanna ask how can i get my url into something like blogname/category/postname???? instead of just blogname/postid?? thanks in advance...
Admin Panel >> Options >> Permalinks Use /%postname%/ for just blog.com/post-name Or /%category%/%postname%/ for blog.com/category/post-name/ I prefer just post name to keep the URL's short.
Oh thanks... You prefer just post name? but the blog.com/category/post-name/ can be of a keyword, right?
Yeah it can be, but if your domain contains the keyword along with your post you can have the keyword 3 times which starts looking long and spammy. I like to keep things simple, short page Titles & URLs
yup. it doesnt work anymore. in fact, wordpress has its built in tag system. you can import your current utw tags into woprdress. use this permalinks structure. /%category%/%postname%/ your links will be like this, eg: yoursite.com/computer/this-is-windows-posts/ -cypher.
