I need a domain in a very competitive niche, and the only short, very relevant domains are only available in .ws For seo, will .ws hurt me. This website will be very developed, would it be stupid to use a .ws?
Domain extentions all have the same SEO value, one doesn't have more weight than the other, unless it comes down to country extentions, and even then it's not that much to even notice. The only reason you don't see many *.ws sites at top rankings is it has not been around as long as the TLDs. So, yes you can get *.ws domains and not worry about any effect on SEO weight or value.
Good point, in fact, I don't think I have ever seen a .ws on the first page of search results, or even in search results at all.
Great, this is good to know. I wonder why people don't use .ws more often. If you can get a short, extremely relevant domain name, then it could be better for seo then settling for a .com or .net with a longer, less relevant domain name.
Most people like to stick to .com domains, since it does make the site somewhat more professional in the long turn. Plus you will be losing out on type-in traffic. Let's say your domain is www.QualityBooks.ws; and well it becomes popular, and people are talking about your site, and they tell each other to visit QualityBooks, well the person's first response would be to visit www.QualityBooks.com; and in return you will lose on traffic. Also, I an pretty sure that .ws are more expensive. And many people have very limited funds when they start out.
I definently agree with that, but that relevant of .com's are almost impossible to find available these days. Most of the short, .com's are either not for sale, or cost thousands to buy. So in terms of branding, there is no question .com is better, but they are a dying breed.
zero effect... but I own one and its never had a problem with SEO results. I agree with Richuser .. Com would be best for type in traffic but I cant see anything wrong... And if you can do something like needfood.ws - Site Title - Need Food , Will Sing.. or directory.ws - Site Title - Directory Web Search.. If you can show that you are not just buying a "ws" because the com is gone you'll feel better and might win some visitors Best of Luck!
Dot ws is from Global Domains and is an alternative to dot com. It costs around $10/month per domain name. Basically it's a MLM program that offers rewards for bringing other users on board. The site builder is very basic as is the email system. You can sign up for a free 7 day trial to see if you like it. I joined a few years ago, I only have one site with them and don't usually advertise to get prospects. If you want to check it out have a look at www.website.ws/kennick
If you have some money to spend, you can get a dotWS domain and host it on another company, which will give you more freedom with your website, but will cost you almost double. Even with dotCOM you may lose traffic who type in the assumed url, eg, if there is a dash between 2 or more words. That, not QualityBooks.com but Quality-Books.com Ok here it's just one dash between 2 words, but what if there are more dashes. At the end of the day it's the same branding issue even with dotCOM. I have a dotWS domain, I'm using it mostly for the MLM but.
Western Samoa, and the idea was to sell the tdl as . ws Web Site, like tuvalu (tv) or .fm. So ifyou have a site about books your slogan would be qualitybooks dot ws The betsite about books and the peple will remember better your domain.
