For me, anything is too much. Personally I probably post around 5 posts in BST each week, usually WTB (links, sites etc) despite spending roughly $4000 each month through DP I'd think twice about posting requests if I had to fork out for the priviledge - that's why I'm here and not Sitepoint, it's just less hassle.

But that's the beauty of the system I'm proposing - those sections would still be the same - and free - the paid-for BST section would be an addition, not a replacement.

I don't really see that working though, surely everyone would just continue to use the free section?

Some would, of course. That's the idea. But a big chunk of people who don't want to see their sales thread buried 3 pages down 30 seconds after they make it would for the most part be willing to stump up the cash to make sure that didn't happen and their sales thread got a decent airing.

Who's to say that this one still won't be saturated? did you read the points above such as, less profit for the seller, could be more expensive for the buyer, could reduce the market value of some items... as I said before, if you're offering a good product you won' have a problem selling it. By the time it's on page 3 it might have 50 views, if someone was interested chances are they have posted it making it closer to the front page..

Great suggestion. Won't be taken under consideration as Shawn has said it many times

Exactly and that's why so many users flocked from Sitepoint to here because of the free marketplace.

Shawn's nobody's fool and, imo, will not dismiss an idea out-of-hand that could prove the difference to this forum's wellbeing. Not saying he will agree, or disagree, just that he won't dismiss it outright when it may make the difference between this forum maintaining its dominance or devolving, due in large part, to the junk and associated drop in overall quality.
It is broken, that's why it needs fixing.

    A duck is a duck.

The marketplace is a mess - there's no other way of putting it.

Its not a mess, In fact there is over a million threads that have been successful, and plenty are making money.

It may be flooded and really popular now, But its not a mess.

People are just getting all pissy cause there thread goes two page two in seconds....

Welcome to the REAL world of ecommerce,

Don't worry the good news is that people actually visit "page two"

There is no way Shawn will EVER , make this place paid, AND he has said that OVER & OVER again,

So the fact that this thread was started again, is just like spamming the forum.

How many times can one thing be suggested?

A price of $5 minimum is needed.. $1 isn't going to do much. People would think a little harder before busting out a Lincoln.

There are TWO sections - one paid and one free. The paid section > Automated payments to PayPal, access to a credit to post one thread in this forum, usual moderated against bumping etc. Target Market > Serious sellers with serious products/services to offer.

I have to agree with that:p.

What's so great about DP is that it has a free and active market place. If there is going to be a paid section, I would like the free section to be more organize to help those like myself who don't want or can't pay.

    You guys serious?

I am not 'embarrassed' about asking for a reviews, it's a great way to get a product for free. I think some people here are just frustrated that there is competition OMG yes competition.. I guess we should hunt them all down and beat them up so our threads will stay on the front page..

I never said there was anything wrong with FREE reviews, I was just trying to say once again , that it wouldn't be fair for the people just starting out with no money.....

Dp is dp , because of all the openness and the FREE ness we have,

Creating a paid place of any sort would just change dp ......
