Help, somebody got my domain

3 days ago I was looking for a domain for a new project. I found one available which was very appropiate. I said to myself. OK, I will buy it later... Today I was going to buy it & I saw it was bought by someone else... YESTERDAY!!!! :(. I have already contacted the person who bought the domain to see if he would sell it to me.

However, I have found another domain which I like even better than this one. It is registered but its status is: Registry Status: pendingDelete

Do you know of any service available (for example at godaddy or some other domain name registrar) which could notify me the moment it becomes available again... so I can go immediately & buy it:).

    Thanks for your help.

You can ask godaddy to backorder it for you. There are other places where you can backorder a name like snapnames for instance.

Godaddy will backorder for you if name becomes available. You gotta pay extra for this service, though. They will let you know and purchase it for you, too. I did this once.

Since the domain is in pending delete status, i would advise you to use either snapnames or pool, don't use godaddy's backorder service for any name other than godaddy's own, their service is crap.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I will use that service then. I have a godaddy account, so that may be the easiest one. However, I am a little concerened by dman_2007 remark, since I am not a godaddy fan at all. However, I am trying to get my domains together (right now I have them at 3 or 4 different domain registrars & is a bit of a headache, so unless there are strong reasons, I would like to maintain it at godaddy...

dman_2007, have they screwed up for you before using this service?

One last question... Do you know how long does it usually take to change from pending delete status to available again... Does anybody know? Thanks

That's another reason why you should register the domain immediately when you see it's available, otherwise others might register the name that you want, especially if you are searching using Godaddy. It happens a lot with them.

Yes, they have. They don't have resources to compete with snapnames and pool for snatching up deleting domain names, on top of that they don't even refund your money if they fail to get the domain for you instead they give you backorder credit, which you can only use to backorder another domain name.

Domains remain in pending delete status for five days.

pool.com is a good choice, you only have to pay if they actually get you the domain..

The worst advice is for you to contact the buyer of that domain. if he thinks there is somebody who wants he is going to screw you good and hard over it. best thing for you to do is wait it out and pick it up after a year or two

Yea, you should look for new domain name rather than contacting the domain owner.

Trust me, I just learnt that "the hard way". However, it did surprise me a lot it being registered (also with godaddy), 2 days after I found it. I thought it being plain coincidence, but your comment made me wonder.. It is not either a domain name people would kill for... It is a three word sentence appropiate for the nature of my business but not even keyword rich...

I contacted the buyer just to hear his proposal. I can always say no but who knows... he may make a decent proposal. If he does not I will just say no & remain at the stage I am in.

thanks, by your suggestions, these guys seem the most appropiate. I will check them out. THanks.

You shouldn't contact the owner because chances are it was registered because of your search but will be dropped within 5 days if they do not think it will profit them enough. I'm waiting on 2 domains to be released that are being "tasted" by other companies because of my whois searches on domaintools

I was not aware that searches in whois or through Godaddy could be followed by other poeple. This is scary...

OK... the domain I am interested in, has no history (so it has never hosted a web page) & according to pool.com, the deletion date is 20-12-2007. Its status is smilar to a-1finds.com (date of deletion & everything), on page

    View a-1finds.com

My question is... If I do nothing & nobody backorders it, will it become available for me to buy it on 20-12-2007 at its regular price (regular .com domain price which I could buy regularly at godaddy), or will it take longer?

Companies sell the whois searches to other companies, the best thing you can do is absolutely nothing for 5 days (no whois, no visiting the domain, nothing!). If whoever registered it is just testing the traffic they will see it has none and move on.

If there is no interest then yes the domain should become available, although, it might be tested by one of the backordering services (5 day limit again) for them to see if they want to keep it themselves. If there is a domain you absolutely want you should backorder with pool, snapnames and namejet. If it's one that you might want a godaddy backorder or just waiting for it to be available will work (as long as no one wants it)

Epsilonstudios, thanks for the info. Still a lot to learn about buying domains. Reality is that I do not think anybody will buy it, however, I do not want to risk it because it is the perfect name for a new project. Following this, I am definitely going to backorder it. The domain was registered at dotster, is there any place where I have a better chance of getting it?

I'm not sure, I am still fairly new to this. I know those 3 are the big ones, I think they are all about $60 minimum as long as no one bids higher, then it goes up from there.
