    The estimated cost of illegal aliens is 70 billion a year. Additionally, it costs on average $13,000 a year to educate each of their children in states like New Jersey and New York. This increases property taxes for both Americans and Legal Resident Aliens. There are additional costs like police, courts and prisions required.

    Illegals give $7 Billion Annually to Social Security which is something like 5% of what they cost the taxpayer.

    Look at it this way. An illegal alien with 4 kids cost the taypayer $50,000 a year for education.

    A sane program of "legal guests workers" would address all of your concerns. Hey, do you have a calculater... how much does a greyhound bus ticket cost. How much is that times twelve million, how much is that times all the drivers, how much is that cost times all the food, how much does that cost times all the security, how much does that cost times all the beaurocracy... How much does that cost times our very soul.

    What we are contemplating is wrong, dangerous, hypocritical, and just plain impossible...

    So go ahead and wave your flag, take all the attention off the Iraq War, the drug war, education, health... all the things they don't want us to think about. Ba-a-a-a-a-a-ah.

    Bang the drum boyos... but in the years to come I will be able to look myself in the mirror...

    A guest worker program woudn't work. #1) all children of guest workers will be US citizens and #2) there is nothing to stop guest workers from becoming illegal aliens and staying in the country once their guest worker visas expire

    Illegal immigration? Eisenhower had an answer

    Fifty-three years ago, when newly elected President Dwight Eisenhower moved into the White House, America's southern frontier was as porous as a spaghetti sieve. As many as 3 million illegal migrants had walked and waded northward over a period of several years for jobs in California, Arizona, Texas and points beyond.

    Eisenhower cut off this illegal traffic. He did it quickly and decisively with only 1,075 United States Border Patrol agents -- less than one-tenth of today's force. The operation is still highly praised among veterans of the Border Patrol.

    America "was faced with a breakdown in law enforcement on a very large scale," Brownell said. "When I say large scale, I mean hundreds of thousands were coming in from Mexico [every year] without restraint."

    Then on June 17, 1954, what was called "Operation Wetback" began. Because political resistance was lower in California and Arizona, the roundup of aliens began there. Some 750 agents swept northward through agricultural areas with a goal of 1,000 apprehensions a day. By the end of July, over 50,000 aliens were caught in the two states. Another 488,000, fearing arrest, had fled the country.

    By mid-July, the crackdown extended northward into Utah, Nevada, Idaho and eastward to Texas.

    By September, 80,000 had been taken into custody in Texas, and an estimated 500,000 to 700,000 illegals had left the Lone Star State voluntarily.

    Unlike today, Mexicans caught in the roundup were not simply released at the border, where they could easily reenter the United States. To discourage their return, Swing arranged for buses and trains to take many aliens deep within Mexico before being set free.

    Tens of thousands more were put aboard two hired ships, the Emancipation and the Mercurio. The ships ferried the aliens from Port Isabel, Texas, to Vera Cruz, Mexico, more than 500 miles south.

    The US Constitution grants all children born in the US citizenship. Guest worker children will become US citizens and you will have the same problems.

    What are you going to do with guest workers that don't want to go home after their visas expire?

    I'm not so sure what your ancient history has to do with todays situation. Ever wonder why the gov't let's it go on?

    Stoping illegal immigration would be a boon to U.S. taxpayers who wouldn’t pay for the billions of dollars of social service for illegal aliens in the US.

    The government lets it continue to go on because the rich, big business and corporations benefit.

    Paul recommends a sane guest worker program by devolving the welfare state.

    Workers would be able to come, work and pay for the services they use. They could go back and forth. They could choose to immigrate.

    But they wouldn't be able to come, stay without any knowledge they are here, and absorb the resources of the tax payers.

    It really goes to motive. Do illegals come here only to work, or is the incentive of birthright citizenship and social welfare the reason they are willing to tolerate shadow status, with poor pay in jobs no one is too enthusiastic about?

    Remove the incentives. Level the playing field.

    Also, Paul doesn't think it is feasible to mass deport illegals in America. Once birthright citizenship and welfare are removed, they will either follow the immigration process, demand better wages or likely return home.

    You know that is so true. How crazy does it get.

    Illegal aliens are returning to Mexico to work for american companies relocating there and sending money back to their families in the US.

    They can't afford to give up the wefare even though they have good paying jobs in Mexico.

    Still, the danger is very real. When 31-year-old illegal Arizona resident Ignacio Jimenez sought employment at an American plant in Mexico, he was shot at by Mexican border guards as he attempted to illegally enter the country of his citizenship

    Indeed, the trend of illegal re-emigration is causing great resentment among the local Mexican population, and tension between Mexicans and illegally re-entered Mexicans—dubbed repatriados—continues to build.

    I'm never one to CHANGE the American way to solve A PROBLEM. And any politician who the best he can come up with is to change THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICAis about as dangerous as they come. You're born in America? Guess what - you're American... Ron Paul can just lump it, that is until, of course, he becomes Emperor Paul. Then he can trash all the rest of the Constitution along with it.

    He's a phoney. Watch out for this dangerous man.

    When the founding fathers drew up the constition there was no motor and air travel. US citizenship should be restricted to children born of American parents or to children born to permanent resident aliens.

    It's completely ridiculous that a child is granted US citizenship if the mother crossses the border when she is 9 months pregnant or a child is born to someone that is here as a tourist or a student visa.

    It's a waste of time Bogart. We've now determined that Dead Corn doesn't even understand what a Constitutional Amendment is.

    Everyone knows that Constitutional Amendments have to be ratified by the States, the President has no such power.

    I wonder if he passed the citizenship exam :confused:

    Dead Corn also needs to understand that illegal aliens are not immigrants . They are aliens who are in the United States in violation of the law having entered the US illegally or overstayed their visa.

    Now here's a leap of logic! The American Constitution was based upon freedom not modes of travel. It goes without saying it deigned to dignify the human condition. To associate the United States with United Airlines is about as disengenious as it comes. Same kind of logic Paul, the Traitor, is using albeit.

    Birthright citizenship did not exist until the 14th admendment in 1868. :D

    The 14th admendment ratified on July 9, 1868 granted citizenship to all persons born in the US.

    14th Amendment Sect. 1. All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.

Again, read the Texas Comptrollers report to see how much FINANCIALLY we stand to gain from these illegal aliens. Again I ask you, why do you think the gov't has been allowiing it thus far. Now, just to get elected, a bunch of politicians are going to sacrifice them, like the jews of NAZI Germany, and you are falling for it at the expense of their very lives, dreams, etc...     Yet he speaks about how dangerous it is to change the constitution, yet in the same breath trumps an 'amendment' which is an attachment/change to the constitution.

    Kind of makes it hard to take him seriously IMHO....
