Havn't seen this posted yet so here you go guys http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2007/12/encouraging-people-to-contribute.html Google will soon be launching a knowledge database which is 100% user generated. Big news especially since it will have Google SERP priority.
So it basically means that this and Wikipedia will take top spot in the serps for every frickin' term you can think of. I'm going to go hang myself right now...
I get you brother... wikipedia outranks me for at least 40 keywords... I hope it will be "do-follow" so I can submit my sources...
They said that they will provide ranking results for knols/googlepedia like they rank any other site on the web.
Why would you hang yourself? It all depends on how many backlinks it generates. Wikipedia ranks well because it has so many backlinks.
Are you sure about that? "A knol on a particular topic is meant to be the first thing someone who searches for this topic for the first time will want to read." For something to be the first thing I would want to read it would have to come up first in the search results. "Our job in Search Quality will be to rank the knols appropriately when they appear in Google search results." I though that ranking in the search results was algo based so why would their job be "to rank appropriately"? Does this mean knols are not ranked like normal sites?
It will be interesting to see how it will compete with wikipedia. I wonder how the layout will look too...
I'm pretty sure their goal in introducing Knol is to knock Wiki down a few spots in the serps, if not off the page entirely. They tried buying Wiki, but since that didn't happen, their second best option is to create a competing product to replace it. And who knows better how to rank well in google than a google company?
will they will not need for rest web now I love google but if they go like this they will be as yahoo if they buy wikipedia it will bebetter make a clone for it look like will come day which we will says on it google is devil
Well, it all depends on how many backlinks Knol manages to receive. If it doesnt receive much, then it won't rank. Of course with Knol coming out, things will be tougher for the wiki.
NO Google said they would be putting their knol above everything else, you're not interpreting it right. It's in the quote where they say they "Our job in Search Quality will be to rank the knols appropriately when they appear in Google search results." That's the more professional way of saying that they're going to manipulate serps for knols.
With google beening a serach eninge, and now going to bring education to the next level, I think google can just pop wiki pedia right out the search. so that google could be on top etc?
How does Google saying that they will rank knols in serps translate to them treating them like any other website?
