What was a mere search engine has turned more into an empire that is hungry for acquisitions .

With the introduction of KNOL ( tends to be competitor for bloggers ).

Google just lost one of its fan .

Isn't google trying to kill the small companies (individuals) ??

Too bad we chose to play their game, so we have to follow their rules.

If you do a search on how Google is becoming a monster here at DP you wouldnt be surprised that many will agree with you to a point. This sentiment has been felt by a few webmasters. But somehow Google offers a lot for to many people to complain loud enough to slow them down. But just like Microsoft and other fortune 500 companies Google will come come into light with lawsuits and anti trust suits against them for some of their practices.

Actually, KNOL will be a competitor to Wikipedia and other sites of the same format.

This is true, once you can't go any higher there is only one place left to go and that is down.

I hope there is a strong competitor for Google in near future. That would be better for all of us.

Google isn't becoming evil... they are just becoming more of a business. They acquired huge amounts of money while they did "No Evil" and are now doing what needs to be done to get more.

Evil? The point of business is make money and since they choose to reinvest the money to become bigger, that does not make them evil. I say that is smart business and like them or not, they one of the smartest companies in the world right now.

Why do is matter? Google is trying to branching out and make more money for their company - how does that make them evil?

The problem is Google is cleverer than just about everyone here. A bit of jealously and resentment. Also a rule book that evolves and you can't get a copy
