I'v been aproached about a dating website, but no need to re-invent the wheel, I'm sure there are a few good solutions out there. In fact I've found a few packages already that look interesting. Has anyone any recommendations for a good base or full package to run a dating website?
I may have posted this in the middle of the night, and I'm sure I've seen a few dating sites for sale on this forum. Anybody any recommendations. It would be good to get some feedback from someone else who has handled this type of site before.
Without wishing to plug another forum. There has been an ongoing debate/discussion on just this topic over at SitePoint for many months. It's one of the longest threads I've EVER seen with 760 replies and 39,861 views. It's got to be the BEST answer you'll ever find regarding this issue. Happy reading! I won't link directly to it because I'm sure that WOULD be violating forum etiquette. Just do a search for 'dating script' over there and you'll find it. Lux
I am in process in installing and testing few scripts, few of the open source/free that you you might look at are: http://www.tufat.com/docs/osdate/index.html http://www.broadshout.co.uk/dating-agency-website.php
Great stuff, I don't have to start this for another month, so I'd appreciate any fedback on how you get on.
To be 100% honest with you there is no best dating script. they are all appaling. Here is my review of the top 4 dating scripts (as voted by everyone) Dolphin: Is a free script that is full of bugs. The company charge you extortionate fee's to fix the bugs (the fee's change depending on how drunk they are that day). Whilst the script looks very nice it is completely useless, as there is no feasable way to perform a distance search. The supplied features (mp3 player, video upload and forum) don't work. It's a "known issue". Absolutely abysmul SEO. Osdate: A hackers / spammers dream come true. The actual interface is one of the most cumbersome, ugly and damn right difficult interfaces I've ever encountered in my life. This combined with the fact that it has no distance searching makes it virtually useless. I gaurantee any webdater will commit suicide after 5 minutes of browsing an osdate powered site. PHPIzabi: Run by a bunch of crooks who hide call home scripts. This was proven when everybody who was running phpizabiz sites all went down simultaniously and some turkish guy stole everybodies identities (or was he russian?, who knows). Flaky code, appaling security features, and a non sesible language file editing script that is harder to learn than machine code. JoomlaDate: Slow, ugly, unusable, featureless and dam right boring. Appaling SEO makes this one of the second worst dating script ever written (the first being a tie breaker between osdate and phpizabi). Install at your own risk, your server WILL be hacked. There's my review of the top 4 scripts, basically what im trying to tell you is, there isn't a dating script out there yet that will provide you with a usuable or secure website. All of theese big companies have hired in professional programmers and spent millions of pounds on marketing (probably to cover up the abysmul programming skills of those in the dating scene). My advice to you is, save up a couple of grand. Hire a programmer, show them plentyoffish.com and then say "I want it to be excatly like that and have identical features" then once you've done that take it to the best template artist you can find and give him another couple of thousand pounds and say "I want this to look like pure sex" Maybe then, you'll have dating site worth using.
I like this definition Btw; you're extremely right about open source solutions/scripts... They're totally crap and waste of time.
got their software, installed it 3 times in the right spots with the right permissions and it does not work as described. sad because it actually looked like it would work.
