I want to create about 10 sites on different related products. Instead of buying 10 separate domains for each of the related products, i was just thinking about buying one domain and having a subdomain for each of the 10 sites i wanted to make. Would these subdomains have the same SEO effect as a regular domain? Would it be better to buy 10 separte domain names instead of 1 domain with 10 sub domains?
Sort of. Subdomains are treated as separate URLs, but what you'll lack is the keyword in the domain by using the subdomains. Example: keyword.domain.com, instead of keyword.com. Gets a little noisy, but it shouldn't be that big of a problem. Good luck.
I suppose if the main domain was related to the sub domains, basically all of them having the same niche that would be fine. Unless you have a three ot four letter domain that is brandable.
Get your subs notice by putting your keywords in the TITLE when you're building the page. IE: Tom's Best Pulled Pork Barbecue.. or, Billy-Bob's 4x4 trucks. So many people forget, or just plain over look the importance of the title for their pages. Pete
Yeah thats a good point, add keywords in the title of the sub domains websites. This will then help you rank all of your web sites located on the sub domains.
Yeah that's a good point... I'm echoing sub-domains can be a valuable tool for putting key-words in them, placed there they may be more valuable than in page title, often on the first page of Google results are sub-domains highlighted for the given search term.
Also if you have developed the sub domain hosted web sites good, people will check out the normal domain by taking away the sub domain part and that will bring traffic to any web site that is hosted on the normal domain.
It can be looked as a new site by SEO, try to submit it to many directories, each subdomain as it's own individual category.
