phpBB3 is good and good step forward, but it has been in RC state for ages. I'm waiting with baited breath for them to realease the final version.

phpBB3 is still under RC, I am quite sure it will be a success when it gets released soon, hopefully.

However, I truly doubt it is able to compete with vBulletin, I think most of the users here agree with me on this point.

    Thanks,
    Meti

I was big on vBulletin over IPB... but I just seen IPB and I gotta say, DAMN!

For a software that used to be free, they on the same level (if not better) with vB now... atleast IMHO.

I tried one of the RC, and it looks fine. But phpBB is not for me no matter how advanced it gets. vB ftw.

No mods from phpbb2 will work on phpbb3 because they are completely different in their makeup. Only mods made for phpbb3 will work in phpbb3. Just like only elephant food will work for elephants, and lion food for lion. You can't cross feed them.

Can I use WYSIWYG editor in reply thread/posting topic page in phpbb forum like vbulletin? if yes then how? Please help. I think this makes better user experience. My website is an entertainment site. So I am thinking to use phpbb for forum. Is it possible to upgrade from phpbb to vbulletin in future without data loss?

I installed phpbb on localhost and tested it. It has everything I need except WYSIWYG editor for posting reply.

    Please help.

Welcome and Good job on resurrecting a thread from august ;)

However, PHPbb 3.0 was officially released on December 13th, 2007, so you have some good timing. I switched to it for my forums aswell and I like it. It is pretty solid.

As for the WYSIWYG editor, I managed to find something which might work. It was an unofficial 'patch' for the editor (to be run on 3.0). Check: Here. I found it scrolling through the support/community section of the official site. The actual post that I read came after the release, so I assume its for the official release and NOT RC8. You would have to check though.

I kind of prefer the editor that is built in, but I guess for my forum it is best suited.

Good luck with the patch! hope it works! Enjoy yourself on these forums.

I more like vB than phpBB, but I use phpBB because it's free :p
If vB would be free, I'd use that one for sure :D

    Hi

I used hot editor in localhost . It worked. Then I installed it on web server . It not worked.
    Please see the screen shots.

    ankurblogs.googlepages.com/HOTEDIT1.JPG
    ankurblogs.googlepages.com/HOTEDIT2.JPG
    ankurblogs.googlepages.com/HOTEDIT3.JPG

If I use it on local host...
when I apply all mods and upload richedit everything worked fine. the editor disappears only if I rename the folder richedit or remove it from location.

But in webserver. richedit is right place. I refresed the templates and imagesets richtexteditor does not appears.

Please help. I am thinking to start forum in New Year.
I liked hoteditor veryyyy much. Please help me to use it on web

PhPBB - i remember when I had one of those forums it was hacked a few times, once by a friend of mine - just to demonstrate how easy it was, maybe its more secure these days - but it sure as hell scared me

    I Think
Vbulletin Is Better Becoz It Has...

    Rich Text Editor
    Reputation System
    User Rating In Forums
    Better Control
