There must be an easier way.

I know many of you have several sites. I am reletively new to being a webmaster - and have 2 sites. I want to build many more.

Along the way I have continously done link exchanges with just about anyone who would link back to me. I find it quite tedious, especially since many sites require you to link to them first - and then they never link back - so you always have to check back and make sure they put your link up.

My question is this. Im suessing I am doing things the hard way. I read here about you guys having thousands of backlinks for each site you have - I dont imagine that you contacted every site and ask for a link -

So what are some easier, more efficient ways? Can you guys give me some pointers in this area?

Join some link exchange network. I love linkmarket.net. Pay 18 bucks, and for one year you can do all the link exchanges you want. I have all my sites listed there and get 30 requests every day.

    short term - link chasing

long term - content ebedded high quality links - out - reciprocal - triangular

I just do the latter doesen't help to agressively move in serps but lets me sleep well and look forward to a long term future and is less tedious work.

Most of these suddenly open up there are follow up deals, more sites and so on.

    don't think so.

    Look at MSN beta link:mydomain.com

links from same domain only a max of 2 are shown for the rest you have to click.
They are still counted but may already be "discounted" for serps.

Coopnetwork acquired links are showing higher up than pure "resource" page links

Use backlinks tracking software. It will help you track down those site that did not link back to you.

I think that people's perception of the internet are a little off base today. Gone are the days of building a site (with decent content etc..) and getting rich in a week or two. Ask Shawn how many years he has put into DP to finally making it into the 'I can now somewhat relax because I am making a decent living' category and you may be upset when you hear how many years.

Like overwiegth people, like myself (only a little...hehe) to get to a level where you are living comfortably again, you have to put in the time, effort and stick to it. 'Fad' webmastering is not around anymore. BlackHat etc... is pretty much a thing of the past.

There is still lots of money to be made on the web (as many here know) but you have to really be willing to work hard and be patient. Joey, give it time, work hard, READ LOTS, and develop strategies. Track them, review the results and find out what works for you.

I have not reaped the rewards of the coop yet, but I am sure all these bodies can't be wrong. Be patient and find your niche...

    my two cents....

I am willing - and I do work hard on my site. Im jsut still somewhat new and dont know some of the more efficient ways of doing things.

I think I have done pretty well with my www.lincolnvscadillac.com site considering I knew nothing about the web, html or SEO when I started it 8 months ago. Ive put alot of time into it and am ready to start doing more. I just want to work smarter instead of harder.

I am feeling exactly the same joey. That's a nice site you've got by the way.

There's a lot of leg work to be done to have a successful site and it can be frustrating at times. I suppose part of the deal is, you have to come up with marketing strategies that are cost effective to get people to visit your site.

Would you all recommend the adnetwork? I haven't really looked at what it's all about yet surprisingly enough.

    Joey,

I guess you answered your own question in some ways. Working smarter, not harder... that to me says more research etc... I hope you didnt take my comments as harsh, they were meant as constructive. I to am going through a similar struggle. Knowing just enough to be effective but not enough to make it easy.

Directories and the coop is a good way to get your links started.

Another method is to do a search for your keyterms with the phrase "add link" or "link" to hopefully find link pages on related sites.

Also, don't forget the "similar pages" links in the SERPS on google. This link will give you similar links to your pages, and having links from those pages will bring more relevent links into your page.

You can also try press releases, articles, etc. I'm sure you've heard about all of this before, and I'm rehashing what may be old information, but it's currently the best method for getting ranked highly in the serps.

My question for you, Joey. Do people really search for "Lincoln vs cadillac"? Is that one of the terms you are optimizing for? Having that as the domain is fine, but as anchor text may not be the best terms to work with.

No but people search for Lincoln and for Cadillac and for variations of those words.

I didnt know much when I started - and named my domain after what I wanted to name the site - SEO wasnt even a thought then -

    Joey,

You face the same issue so many wm's face today. Time constraints, and accurate business/seo intel.

My view is simple. You already understand what a link is, and you know what you want from them. Now all you have to do is make them appear on webpages all over the world, and on sites (preferably) that are directly related to yours. You also know that outbound links should mostly be to sites that are related to yours as well.

Nothin difficult about that, right ?

It certainly remains the bain of most WM's professional endeavours.

If you can find a site that offers a static, recip linking network, lets you identify your prospects ahead of time (ie by theme/PR/serps rank etc) and supports request processing, it might be a good place to start.

I would suggest you have a look at the ready made networks, or reciprocal linking sites *that do the work for you* in a sensible and *verifiable (as in network member count etc)* way. It'll cost, but it's worth the time savings. Just ensure that whatever you choose in the way of a site or network, it's consistent with your own strategy (not their idea of what's right), and your needs. Are they going to force you to do this, validate that, or basically, just waste your time in *their* particular way ?

I hope you find your way through the maze :)

I'll have a little something of my own soon that I think most WM's will like (a recip-linking site) that I plan to have live in the next couple of weeks.

    cheers,

    JL

Sure, buddy... you know, it is just the game among competitors... ;)

Glad to see you figured out how to put up the coop code.. I tried, but after a few failed attempts I decided to move on
