I am trying to rank well on Yahoo for the term "Free Games" and it just seems impossible. I implemented all the on-page optimization tips I could find but it just doesn't seem to cut it. Is it possible I simply need more inbound links? I don't want to waste time getting them if it's something else...
I believe its because google is more fast to react to offsite SEO changes to a website (provided once the website is out of sandbox and trusted by the google), though inbound links would never hurt
I am in the exact same boat as you - great rankings on Google - but not so good on Yahoo. I know that Google is the most used, but I would still like to improve my Yahoo rankings - no good keeping all your eggs ( or site ) in one basket ( or search engine ). Alex
But how long do we wait ?? My site has been up for 5 years now, and still struggles to rank well in Yahoo.
I saw you mentioned "on-page" only. Try getting more links. Also few sitewide for Yahoo and MSN. You don't have anywhere on page "free games". Your h1 is "Home" Read some more about on page optimization
So I am going to jump in your boat as I think I also belong here. I've got the almost same problem only, I am almost no where on Yahoo and doing absolutely fantastic on Google. What the heck do we need to do???
Guys, I know that Yahoo responds better to on-page SEO and internal linking structure way more than Google, Google cares more about off-page elements. Personally I think it's a waste of time to get Yahoo SE Traffic, rather go for referral sites, but if you really want to increase in serps, you should try to check all the on-page SEO elements, (h1,h2,h3,title,meta,left>right,size,bold,links,alt,link title, etc etc). Cheers!
I really don't have any secrets, other then the SEO. Linking to your site with anchor text, h1 tags, keywords in title, etc.
Yahoo traffic is minimal-not worth thinking about. Funny thing today, saw a Google ad -for Yahoo to use their search. LOL
