The problems with vista have been mentioned numerous times. Incompatibility, lagging computers, and those annoying "Do you reeeealy want to do this?" boxes. Couple that with the promises of longhorn that were cut out of the program because M$ couldn't get them to work in time for the release, and there you have essentially XP with this new aero interface which is supposed to be snazzy, but makes old computers run horribly slow. Does anyone really want to spend $300+ on that? Of course not. That would be just plain retarded. Aside from that, there are many different operating systems that can be obtained for free. I was so pissed off when it turned out that I could only buy the XP upgrade for $99, and not an actual installation disk. Vista is even worse. I happen to run Ubuntu, and it works for my wife and I. Certainly there are annoyances, but let's be honest, surfing the internet is interesting, but not necessary for life. All hail the original entertainment display media: books!!!
lol yes when we were all just reading books and not concerned with this thing called "technology" books were definatly the way to go....
Yeah I really don't want to switch to Vista Either but Mac and Linux are not options as far as I'm concerted. Good thing I have an old copy of windows XP I can install on any new computer I get.
I have vista(oem buyed anew computer) and it is the worst OS. Some people tested Vista with SP1 and XP with SP3(the beta versions) , and XP with SP3 is much faster in some applications 3 times faster. http://www.news.com/Windows-XP-outshines-Vista-in-benchmarking-test/2100-1016_3-6220201.html
I recently bought myself a laptop that came pre-installed with Vista Home Premium and so far I must say that Vista is pretty decent. I haven't had any problems with programs not working/working slowly. The downside to Vista is that you definitely need up to date hardware with a minimum of 2GB of RAM. On the laptop with just the OS and an AV program running it uses around 900MB of RAM.
I have vista and xp on my computer with 3 gigs and vista runs fairly well with it but it could use that extra gig.
Well 4GB would only be useful if you are running 64bit version of Windows. If I'm not mistaken 32bit Windows can only address around 3GB of RAM, even if you have 4GB.
The worst operating systems is Microsoft <enter version here>. Just kidding. I like XP. I'm not a big fan of Microsoft's constant "upgrades" to more and more resource intensive OS's though.
I got a great deal from the guy who MADE my computer... I got to select custom components... so I knew what I was getting... I got WINDOWS XP... lol Duel core 5200 athalon xp (runs at 2.6... just twice as many processes at once...) 2GB 800mhz ram (not the crappy ones that come with pcs from best buy..., they normally have 600 mhz) Large power supply large case dvd writer+cd writer and a bunch of other stuff... I think total was 800 but now you could get it for cheaper.. runs great! pm i will give you his email.
Vista doesn't even have one service pack available on Windows Update. The memory taken up is from a feature called Windows SuperFetch: "SuperFetch monitors which applications you use the most and preloads these into your system memory so they'll be ready when you need them. Windows Vista also runs background programs, like disk defragmenting and Windows Defender, at low priority so that they can do their job but your work always comes first." http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/features/details/superfetch.mspx Did you build the computer yourself or buy it? When you buy a computer it's a good idea to reformat it right a way. Companies like HP, Dell, and Gateway load a bunch of crap on there computers that most people don't need. A simple reformat or uninstalling the extra programs can make a big difference in performance. Out of the box, Halo 2 is Vista ONLY1@!@!2111! Why did u post the same thing twice?
The only thing thats good for vista is the GUI, windows ultimate looks sweet thats IT, it SUCKS performance wise! And yes we are stuck with it since all new games actually working around vista making it better etc for vista. And windows updates will probably stop happening for xp soon! Tyler
The games are better because of Directx 10, I believe. I think Crysis plays much better on Vista too.
