New way to monetize sites, may make Adsense obsolete

I just heard about this brand-new service, which is backed by a major search engine and by one of the most respected SEO experts. It will pay per impression at a higher rate than Adsense pays per click, in many cases. Plus, you get paid without having surfers leave your site.

Membership is completely free, and for a limited time you can join as a free charter member with additional privileges not available later. You can't possibly lose by getting in now.

Folks, this could be revolutionary. See link in my sig for more info.

Your affiliate link just goes to one of those spammy scammy splash pages. Hmm doesn\'t really look like a program to me

Great way to waste your first post in this forum!

I don't think you can possibly have read that page, whatever you thought about how it looks. I wouldn't have wasted anyone's time to mention something that isn't valuable. Try looking up my history before you take potshots.

payperplay sounds pretty insane, potentially way more effective for advertisers than pay per impression

Right, which means that there could be major bidding wars once this gets off the ground. Which means that it's even better for webmasters because the payout per play will go sky high.

I like adsense because its unobtrusive and contextual. A site with a 5 seconds, compulsory, visual, audio ad everytime I opened a page would ensure I didn't go back.

If the scheme is successful we'll only see repeats on television. Bad

Yea I signed up about a week ago. They had me thinking I was going to be able to put something on my website right away.

    Nope...

I guess I'll find out more when I get an email. They have already sent me 3 or 4.

That service will be abused so bad with people using bots and proxies that it won't work the way they think it will and we will have to ad another to the "better then adsense" graveyard

Yes, but they can use same restrictions as Google Adsence for forced traffic etc.

That's a valid concern, but it looks as if the people behind this aren't dummies. Presumably they've thought of the ways it could be abused and have built in defenses. I guess we'll find out.

The numbers don't add up - they are claiming 2.8 cents per play, or $28 CPM, with 25%, or $7 CPM, going to the publisher. Traditional radio costs for a local 60 second spot are $8 CPM even at prime morning rush hour according to some random web page, so PPP are charging per second at 70 times the traditional radio rate, and that's before we even consider click-fraud, and at $7 CPM you can bet there's going to be a lot of it!

If they really do launch, within a day someone will have a FireFox blocker, or even better, a FireFox addon that sucks down the stream but doesn't play it!

    Hi All,

I have done some homework on the PPP Opportunity and it seems the deal is valid and the People behind the Program are valid so I will probably sign up today.

    Have a Nice Day ;)

A new way to annoy web visitors. I thought those stupid flash banners that said "Hello!" real loud were bad. Now I'm really surfing with my speakers off.

You know, I do think that some valid concerns have been raised in this thread, but I'm convinced that the people behind this have really done their homework, not only on the technical side but also in studying both consumer response and advertiser satisfaction regarding this medium.

Here's part of a fascinating post from their blog today:
I think the message is clear. This is really a ground floor opportunity, and you never know who you know at one degree of separation or two. Sign up today (through the link in my sig, of course), recommend it to a few friends, and you just might score big.
