How long before new site can get PR from Google?

    Hello,

I'm new here. Hope this is the right category for this.

I am indexed in Google, but still PR0. How long does it take, normally, for a new site to get PR 1? Just curious.

    Thanks!!

    George

    Hi,
Welcome to the SEO world ;)

The PR which is displayed is not updated very often. It used to be rougthly every 3 months but the last time it took 6 months.

But that doesn't really matter in fact, since your true PR is always up to date from google's point of view and even if your site displays PR0, you can appear well in SERP.

You need to get some links and you'll rise. That's the rule :)

Thanks for the response! This SEO "stuff" is amazing! The volume of information I have gobbled up on it from 100's of sources in the last month is insane!! I had no idea that this dark little SEO world existed a month ago.

I saw that PR (the shown to us version) updates around 3 months after I posted this. I guess that sort of answered my question.

Another spin on it is this: let's pretend that my site kicks butt on volume and quality/ quantity of backlinks in the first 3 months. Is it possible to go from PR0 to PR4 or so in such a short period? I honestly have no clue. I am wondering if such a progression usually takes years, or if some make it happen fairly fast.

Since I'm adding new/ more questions, I am concerned about creating 2 many backlinks 2 quickly. I heard from one sourse that 10-20 per day at first from various sites will fly under the radar. Does this sound truthful? Does listings on directories (say 100 in a few days) hurt me? I want to go nuts with the links, but I'm nervous. If I could just feel confident in an approximate quantity, I could feel a lot more relaxed about it. Also, if 10-20 per day at first is OK, how many in 3-6 months per day? Know what I'm getting at?

Sorry if this was 2 long and scattered. I'm just happy that I found this place where I could air all of these questions to some live folks, instead of reading marketing articles.

    :O)

P.S. You DP folks r awesome!! Seriously.

A new site gets PageRank as soon as all other sites are updated. Theoretically you could make a site and 2 weeks later have PageRank, if you were lucky with your timings.

It depends really, I have had sites get PR after only being registered for 1 week and a update happens. It will never take longer then 2.5 months to get a pr1 if you have just a few links pointing to it.

Infact I got a PR5 to one right out of the hat as it only had pr6 links pointing to it :D

i think it's depend on the quality and contextuality of your linkback. One site at 10 linkback at 7 PR site is more valuable then 1 site at 200 linback with different topics. It's can make increase of our pr site.

the critical thing about PR is understanding what type of backlinks effect PR in what way, and in what time period. This is really what true solid SEO is all about...because it enables you to rank a site in a predetermined, limited time period. anything else is unreliable trial and error...you may get lucky, or you might not.

The Ochre Edition of the SEO Manual will effectively teach you how to use PR for reliable SEO. see http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=601959

PR is worthless now, don't bother trying to get it. Organic rankings are all that matters.

I can spend 6 months working on getting expensive text links to a website just to boost it's PR and get no other benefits or I can spend 6 months working on a site to get relevant quality backlinks and build content and do it all for free and get high rankings which means tons of traffic.

PR is dead. The last update just about killed it.

Christian, you are so WRONG. PR is the critical secret of SEO...a true understanding of PR is fundamental to professional SEO. You don't know a thing about it, that's why you think its worthless.

Of course mancherterguy...I haven't been working online for ten years, and I most certainly haven't done SEO for some of the biggest online companies in the world, and I definately haven't attended just about every SES conference for the past several years. Nope, I don't know anything about SEO...oh wait a sec...I have done all that!

Grow up. Flaming somebody doesn't prove anything.

i'm not flaming anybody. It's just that your abysmal lack of knowledge about PR and how its used for planning link building is shocking, especially with someone who's had all that experience as you claim to.

PR does not mean higher rankings automatically, because higher rankings are KEYWORD SPECIFIC, while pagerank is not.

However, page rank does help your improve your rankings in very specific ways, which is what nobody is allowed to talk about in public so i couldnt tell you here lol :)
