This is a great thread explaining about getting back links....

Since it still seems like traffic remains the #1 problem faced by most online business today, you need to find a balance between free and paid web traffic sources - doing so will definitely improve your ROI and profits online.

There are many ways to generate free quality web traffic - one of which is finding communities like this one, visited by people in your niche market, and providing them with answers to the questions being asked.....

Backlinks are one of the most effective ways to attract visitors, including search engines to your website

Let me know how I can help you furthe

For me, the best backlink is ANY backlink.
Bear in mind that you need diversity. So you need a bulk of junk backlinks from article directories, web directories, etc. Then, you need intermediary backlinks from related blogs (backlinks that actually have some PR). Then, if you can get your hands on some backlinks from related websites, it gets even better. DIVERSITY is the keyword here, remember that.

The absolute best backlink is tough to get.

It's a link from the website in number one for your desired keyword with the exact matching anchor text. You'll go right up in rankings with that one.

Nobody mentioned articles yet. Articles that are related to my website and have an anchor text link to my website seems like a great way to get a "quality" free link.
    Any comments on this?

I would like to share my experience. I started with creating a webpage that simply listed Indian and Chinese stocks traded on US stock exchanges ( called ADRs). It was a simple page. I did not know what page rank, link building and all these things were at that time. I just wanted more and more people to visit my page. I started writing some mesaages on the finance message boards in response to people posing questions.

That became instant hit. In three months my page ranked 3 from 0. Many people automatically started referring my page. I was later that I learned the significance of back linking.
