I have google adsense on my blog Nearly-Dr Ferox. The blog is esentially about being a vet student. Next year I will be living on campus where there is intrenet access in the library so I can keep posting, but potentially my fellow students could also be reading my blog and clicking on my adds. If I post on the blog at uni, and someone else clicks on an add at uni, is it going to look like I'm clicking my own adds?
I'm in the same situation at the moment (using the uni connection). I have found that i've been perfectly fine (and have been for about 4 months). But if someone else knows better then please do mention it cause i'd be interested too Thanks
Well, as long as they don't click your ads from the pc you are working on, I think you should be fine. Just make sure you don't click your ads.
I'm sure that, unless you get a significant amount of your clicks from the network of school computers, you will be fine.
What would be a 'significant amount' of clicks? Because a 'veterinary student blog' is a pretty tight niche, mainly of interest to veterinary students who mostly use the same computer lab.
A lot of the advice here is dead wrong, if you're not proactive here you could lose your account. It's not "cookies" that determine whether or not you're clicking on your own ads or not, it's your IP address and geographic clicking trends. Google might see that it's a university IP and be forgiving, but I wouldn't count on that. If I were you, I would wrap code around the adsense in my page to block advertisements from displaying on campus.
hmm, i dont think he would want to wrap any code around it as the campus is where he is aiming at i think.
She. I'm a she. And yes, I think my main demographic is going to be other people going through the same course as me. Not a lot of people realy want to look at photos of surgery or understand the frustrations of washing your hands for 20 minutes.
Google determine fraudulent clicks on a various scale, IP, geographical location, time, OS, browser, cookies, etc. If all the University PC have IE7 and are running Windows XP and all are using the same IP, then this will trigger alarm bells over at Google, trust me.
I would probably not use google ads in this situation! If most of your site viewers are going to be part of the same network or have same IP address range? You are stepping on your own toes.. I would use a different type of banner or ad placements on this paticular field niche site.. Until you get your own IP address apart from the same network anyway.. This is based mostly on my personal opinion of how things work.. But, most likely, Google does not have time to pin point every computer therefore may not like this situation. You can do what you wish! However, I personally would not risk my one and only Google account for life in this situation. Boulder
How does Google deterimine what my IP adress is? If I only post on the blog and access my adsense account from a computer at home, but still log into my blog to moderate etc at Uni, would that look fair in the eyes of google?
Well, it is not just your IP address and your computer that comes into play in this situation... What could potentially raise the red flag at Google is that there is a likely hood that there would be multiple clicks from the same IP address at the Uni... You say there will probably be lots of people looking at the page from the Uni.. So if the Uni pipes to the internet through one router and has but one main external WAN IP address? Than all the clicks on your ad's will come from one IP address.. And Google would most likely not approve of all clicks coming from a single IP address.. If everyone at the Uni was equipped with their own Computer and their own private ISP carrier than that would be a different story.. However I would imagine, most of the folks at Uni would be plugging their laptops in to the Uni network, which leads to the Uni router, which leads to the one single WAN IP address.. Boulder
All computer have their own user settings in its browser. All will be having their own cookies. Hence, make sure that the click is not made from your computer. you will not be having problem
Tracking is done based on cookies AFAIK not on IPs so, unless you let someone use your computer OR click on your own ads you are safe
