I think i read it somewhere, dont remember where..

However, This fact cannot be denied that the popularity of wikipedia is solely due to google. Wikipedia has done no advertising whatsoever. Its google who has fuelled wiki's popularity since every search shows wiki's page as the first result relating to that keyword. This clearly indicates that Google's SERPS are biased towards wiki.

If tomorrow, google were to pull of this act , then the popularity of wiki would severly decrease. Every schoolboy knows what google is, but he doesnt know what wikipedia is. Its due to google that wiki became known.

Also read that Google offers to Host wikipedia

(article here : http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1895,1764349,00.asp) Isnt too much dependency a tell-tale sign that wikipedia and Google will soon be one ?

Wrong. Everyone and their mother knows Wikipedia now. Severely decrease is NOT a problem since they are popular enough TODAY. And you can bet everything that every schoolboy knows what wikipedia is! Wikipedia helps SO many people with school work these days it's insane.

    http://alexa.kingnic.com/data/details/traffic_details/wikipedia.org

    Wikipedia.org has a traffic rank of: 8

I do agree that Google made Wikipedia known--due to the ranking of Wikipedia for VERY competitive terms.

THANKS FOR STARTING THIS TOPIC Minterest. Rep added. Finally an interesting discussion in the AdSense section, lol.

There was a part on their donation FAQ (which has since been removed) that addressed advertising on Wikipedia.

It said something about not wanting to be seen as endorsing one adverting company.

Which is crazy because if they put Adsense on their pages then they would easily make the money to do the stuff they want like put on events in Africa and such.

Ya, because they'll have a premium adsense account and they'll be able to do whatever.

Wikipedia is a non-profit organization. But if they did put adsense ads, I'm not that sure that they will get many clicks. Most people are searching for information on Wikipedia, not looking to explore our sites or buy anything. So, the amount of clicks will not be as high as we may actually think.
