My conclusion is : adsense pays better the traffic directly from search engines ... this is the traffic that converts better ( just my opinion )

To summarise what you have all said.

- From what I've read people are making in the region of $1 - 2 / day. Would it be reasonable to assume that the business model is therefore to run multiple proxy sites?

$ 1 - 2 / day takes about 800 visits and 30 - 40 clicks.

- Would I be right in thinking that another reason for multiple sites is that they are routinely banned by the firms restricting access at schools etc?

Apparently not. Which leads me to conclude the people behind these censorship programs are ever so slightly dense.

- If that is true does each site need to be on a separate IP address? I would assume they are likely to ban the IP address as well as the domain name.

- Options for scripts seem to be limited. I've heard of PHProxy, Zelune and CGIProxy. The individual behind PHProxy seems to have stopped development leaving issues around logging in to some sites unresolved. Zelune seems to be very new and I couldn't find much info on how successful the script was. CGIProxy apparently is very resource intensive. Is this a fair summary of the market or is there an alternative I'm missing?

- How much traffic do you need to reach the $ 1 - 2 / day mark? The reason I ask is the small number of adwords promotions on google search for terms like 'free proxy', 'web proxy', etc

No advance over '$ 1 - 2 / day takes about 800 visits and 30 - 40 clicks' for revenue but there are mixed feelings about the best ways to promote. Some suggesting proxy.org and topsites and others saying Adwords is a cheap option.

i get 2k + visits on my network but its still 1-1.5$ a day

 

Just thought i would update about widgetbucks - they now have cpm ads for international traffic - so you will get paid cpc for Canadian & US AND cpm for all the other traffic your proxy brings

Just copy pasted the code onto my proxies - and the ads display fast -

adsense + widgetbucks on proxies makes sense

PM if you want to get further details of 0.45$ - 0.69$ per click from widgetbucks

 

CTR is horrible with widget bucks though ugh! it almost evens out, normally with adsense i get like 100 clicks one day for like 20$ if i swap out with widgets i only get like 20

I agree the ctr is v low however the cost per click is high and makes up for it

I use widgetbucks in addition to adsense not on its own

This way i still get my adsense money + widgetbucks money

Have you tried doing this

I have found 2 big square adsense blocks (side by side) at top of page & 1 widgetbucks banner below (close to) proxy url address box works best

 

I bought this service and while it's still being setup, I am hoping that I'll see the same benefits as Killafawk

 

I also run two networks and just realised that individual proxies do better then a network

 

the number of proxy sites you own can be a problem for adsense ?

 

I own about 50, and no problems with adsense, ever.

have you ever got paid from WB ads on ur proxies?
there are many DP users talking about WB and all say its a real scam

actually it might be more i don't keep track on daily stats but on a non-smart priced account it comes out to about 10-20$ a day. so 10 x 30 = 300$ and proxies normally go for 2x monthly income so i am actually giving them a great bargin thats why they usually sell like 20 mins after i post them up for auction.

 

WidgetBucks is definitely not a scam. They are known for banning low-conversion traffic though...
