Although, the auction ended at 6, this isn't eBay, with stringent controls, and due to the next the last bids we're only a few minutes out I am worried that some members may feel hard done by.

Please let me know what you think I should do in this situation, as I haven't come across it on DP before, do I stick with the $175 bid, or keep the auction open till 30 mins after the last bid?

Please don't take, this the wrong way, I am just unaware of etiquette regarding this manner, and will obviously follow what the majority of people think! I'm not a devious person.

    Cheers,
    Craig :)

I think you should stick to your original terms...
(you did not mention anything about extending the auction)

However, there is no hard rule regarding this on DP so the final decision is yours :D

OK, to try and make this fair... I'm lowering the BIN to $210. The next person to post... post
"SOLD ITS MINE AND NO ONE ELSES"

That will win the bid for this domain, and the auction will be CLOSED.

I don't think it is "fair", because you did not mention anything about extending the auction.
Auction should be closed at the specified time/date -- that's fair.

Except, if you said something like extending the auction after the last bid...
and usually this is a 5-minute extension, not 30 minutes.

If I were in your position I would have to choose between two things: money, or sticking with my words.

OK, please reply and let me know what you personally would do in this situation, and I will then do as you would do! Be honest, and don't say that you'd give the domain name away for free! :D

Where did this "25% processing fee" come from?

The processing fee was a joke!

I have issued a refund, and am contemplating selling this site at a real auction with the possibility for more people to have a fairer chance of winning the domain. If I decide this, I will more than likely use a proper domain auction like the ones at SitePoint.

    Cheers,
    Craig :)

So, you started an auction here, set an explicit end time/date, got a winner according to your terms, and then canceled the whole auction? And now you talk about "the possibility for more people to have a fairer chance of winning the domain"?

Craig Hamnett : I do hope you will stick with your words.
I'd like to hear your final say on this matter.

That is what this boils down to yes, that it is worth far more than was being offered. I have since had people telling me that this domain should not go for less than $400 as this is the value of the domain. Since being made properly aware of this I have decided that I am not willing to sell for less, and therefore meetgs has been promptly and fully refunded, and I will either be selling to anyone who offers a reasonable offer, or selling at auction with a real reserve price.

I hope this clarifies my actions on this matter, and I do apologize, I made a mistake and I'm doing the best I can to rectify that mistake.

Craig Hamnett, when you talk about "etiquette" :
The proper etiquette is to stick with the original auction terms.
That means, closing the auction at the specified time/date, and selling the domain name to the winner.

Canceling the auction like this is not ethical at all.

I don't know if this is a case of greed vs integrity.

It is very nice of you to admit that you made a mistake, but...
Just remember that it is still in your capacity to correct that mistake :D

I think you have hit the nail on the head, I was trying to preserve my integrity, which is why I initially allowed you to win the auction at $175 even though there was a bid at $190 (I can take a $15 cut from a mistake).

But when I realized the that the actual value of the domain should be twice if not triple the amount that it was selling for, I simply couldn't let myself do that, so unfortunately I have had to lose my integrity for the sake of my greed.

I consider my integrity lost this round, and I hope I can make it up to you guys in the future, this community is predominately a very fair and worthy one which I intend to be a part of for much longer to come.

I just hope that for now you will accept my apologies and try to understand that I could not take such a huge loss.

    Craig :)

I cannot really accept your apology, because you do have the power to correct that mistake, but you choose not to.

I just hope you can maintain your integrity in the future.

    Agreed, it's deserved.

By doing this, you're not going to have a good reputation for any future sales on DP.

If the auction has a set ending date & there's no reserve price that you've published, then the person who had the highest bid before the end of the auction is the winner.

Yes, I see that now, and I've definitely learned from this that if I want a domain to go for a higher price to specify a reserve in future. Again, Sorry.
