How do you get links on related sites, when they're competitors?

I'm trying to get some links, 1 way or 2 way, on some financial based websites, but the sites I need to get links on are all competitors. Needless to say, it's going to be tough to get any link exchanges going with these guys so... What's a good plan to get some quality relevant links? Should I try to get links from all the sites my competitors have backlinks from instead?

yeah, i would do just that, check out their backlinks, because most likely they'll be wanting to do link exchanges. Or look through any website for any sign of link exchange - many sites are now creating links pages with relevant content on them so they can swap links with other non-related sites. Or you could easily look into LavaLinx. ;)

Relevant, related, similar, etc, etc, are all pretty much the same words, however, you will notice that when people use them in relation to links they are not and rarely say SAME sites as yours.

The possibility of you having a niche that is soooo narrow that all of the pages that are not yours are competitors is likely kind of slim. Broaden out your scope and find sites related to yours.

if you have a site about mortgages, then don't bother with other mortgage company sites, they are as greedy as you are. Search for sites that talk about mortgages and talk to them about links.

Submit to articles to article sites ~ as an article would be related.
Submit to the correct categories in directories ~ as again, they are related.
Find sites that are related to your niche and try getting links ~ keep in mind, similar, not the same ;)

Just go to the the site of competitors, find out the links on their page search for it and you will be happy.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll check them out. I'm just tired of endlessly submitting to directories for low value backlinks. I'd rather focus my efforts on getting some quality links on relevant sites, but it's proving to be more difficult than I expected.

buy relevant domains, build mini pages and link them back to your site (I've done this twice)

Better if you get backlinks from your competitors, because in search engines, all of them are your competitors

lavalinx has no footprints left behind from their exchanges. they made it so everything exchanged is up front and honest, no cheating, and it's really easy to manage all of your links. it'll even check for missing links and make sure your link is still up after the trade is completed. they were in beta for a while but i think they might have just come out, and they had free signups for the first 500 people, not sure if that's still the case. i use it daily and love it, seriously i don't know what i'd do without it since i have so many trades to manage. at least check it out. the guy who created it is really smart about seo.

Sounds like you have been submitting to free directories.

Submit to high value directories for review and you will get high value listings if accepted.

I'll be honest, I've been submitting everywhere and anywhere I can. I've found some pr5+ free directories, and I've paid for some pr5, pr6+ directories as well, plus a bunch of PRnothing directories. I've had this site for over a month and I can't get the thing to rank for it's keywords and I'm don't know what else I should be doing besides trying to build relevant links. It's my middle signature link.

Got it and completed it. Thanks for the offer. I'm going to try that LavaLinx format and see how it goes.

thats a great technique checking their backlink and try to get links from those site most seo does that but of course there are still other way to get to the top 5 of SERP other than having a high back links you can also focus on good content and great page optimization of page.
