So upon rejection of their site i think it would be fair to give them a personal reply in their rejection email, like breaking down things to show them where you believe or your editor believes that their site is not suitable to be listed, what do you think? This isn't wasted time, if its a paid for review, then regardless of full refund or partial refund it wouldn't take forever to explain individually to each rejected.
Its a huge annoyance isn't it. I find it easier to spot them in a couple of my directories because i have a rather long description limit; hence descriptions just get copied and pasted, two, three, even four times sometimes! Needless to say the rejection pile on free directories should be quite high to keep the crap out - alternatively if you've got time to go through every listing and edit it, so be it! I think its time someone put together a name and shame list of auto submitting spammer websites... then compile it into a mod for phpld or similar...
I don't know about other directories, but yes we have a reviewers comments section in the rejection email where the reason(s) is stated. An example is recently we rejected a site because their site was a mess and the contact page wasn't working, address etc were simply not visible in Firefox, this resulted in the site owner having it reworked to correct the issue and the site is now listed with us. A good outcome for all. For free submissions we don't reject we just discard as there's not enough hours in the day to deal with them.
Thats cool as at least the submitter gets a clearer picture of why they are rejected and may be able to make improvements on their site if they want to.
yeh sorry, I should have been more specfic. for example you could add the field "address" to your submit page.. this normally stops the crap, and also your submission guidelines look a bit long winded to me... even I just wanted to scroll past them when I was trying to read them You could make the "we accept" parts in red or something like that just to make it different and make people read it. regards James.
