Mercola was warned by the FDA about using the language that exaggerated the benefits of his product. But why do you care... But you don't even trust the standards of the FDA So why mention the accusations. Mercola actually said you can eat Pork "occasionally." Still call him a quack ? He has advice that could save the lives of millions. There is no long registration, just a newsletter signup.

    Is this an opinion ?
The scientific journal about feces in pork ?
Bifidobacterium Species Isolated from Animal Feces and from Beef and Pork Meat
    http://www.ingentaconnect.com/iafp/jfp/2006/00000069/00000004/art00023

Is this an opinion reason ?
American Seventh Day Adentists don't eat pork and live 10 years longer than the average American.
This National Geographic presentation showed three cultures that enjoy great longevity. It said the American Seventh Day Adentists who never eat pork, live 10 years longer than the average american. 100 years ago, everyone called Seventh Day Adventists quacks, today their lifestyle is called revolutionary. Do you call that an opinion too ?

Is this an opinion reason ? Reason #96

Anyway, I'm going to try ending this on a good note. I'm happy your enjoying a better version of Pork with higher levels of Omega-3 fatty acid. I congratulate you for that.

    Marcel,

    You said:

-without saying more, and used this as one prong of your argument to bolster your agenda, and dismiss a counterview. A very quick investigation reveals this D.O. has been warned on numerous instances for false claims, been sued for malpractice (prevailing, on a statute of limitations, apparently), and has received a ton of negative press online. You decide credibility.

The ingenta pages don't load. But again, no news to me. Food is loaded with crap, and it isn't limited to meat. (the spate of e. coli contaminations in spinach over the last few years is but one of many examples). The only way to ensure it isn't is to cook it properly, or irradiate it. There is no "pure" food, and what one seeks is to maintain microbial loads to an acceptable limit.

Your other references refer to meat, generally; and if you'd like yet another repeat, yep, agreed, meat is bad.

Seventh-Day adventists are just clean folks, all around, preferring lacto-ovo vegetarianism as a matter of health consciousness. The "dietary laws" stem from the Old Testament; no news there. They also avoid alcohol, tobacco, coffee, soda, etc.:

I don't doubt they live longer, as a whole. Faith and "clean living" has been shown to have a statistically significant beneficial effect on longevity. But I do not see anything establishing pork and longevity as a causative chain. A quick statistic. In a selection of close to 20 countries, Denmark has the highest per capita rate of pork consumption in the world:

    http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/foo_por_con_per_cap-food-pork-consumption-per-capita

With a life expectancy of 78 years.

    http://encarta.msn.com/encyclopedia_761577747/Denmark.html

Brazil, in the above list of pork consumption, has the lowest per capita consumption. Brazil's life expectancy? 72 years.

    http://encarta.msn.com/encyclopedia_761554342/Brazil.html

WHAT? Well, guess I conclude pork prolongs life.:D

In other words, brother, careful with statistics that mean nothing. Ensure causation chains before posting an argument based on shoddy linkages that may or may not exist - intervening variables (such as smoking, drinking, etc.) may have an effect on longevity, in your example of SDA's.

The bottom line is that you have tried to make a case against pork as a breed apart, and have provided nothing to make your point credible. I can only conclude your preference has pre-determined your conclusions drawn.

I realize your arguing for no reason at all and don't know what your talking about. This argument could last forever.

I happen to be a SDA and work at a international health organization that deals with these specific issues everyday. We work and communicate with the FDA, USDA and CDC daily. As I said before, I have facts and details to bury you.

Non communicable diseases caused by improper diet and lifestyles are better killing machines than all sexually transmitted diseases combined. Heart disease, arthritis and other related ailments caused by improper diets are killing americans and anyone who wants to live the an american ( 80% of the third world ). In certain parts of the third world, AIDS isn't the biggest killing, the biggest killers are the non-communicable diseases caused by improper diet.

Your commercial links say nothing and your manipulation of facts only hurt people on DP who need to change their eating and living habits. You might think your only talking about Pork and high behind the banner of "healthy" pork. But in the end, your just being a leading others astray.

You might think your smart, but your antics are only distracting others from making the right decisions or paying attention. For the sake of privacy, I can't present facts related to my work. But the information is out there, it's obvious and it's already mentioned in literature.

Arguing just for the fun of arguing is pointless. But you still want a silver bullet that talks only about Pork. Keep looking...

Man screw all that health mumbo jumbo. If you eat pork there will be nothing wrong with you. If you eat only pork or any other meat only you may have a problem. I don't see pork as a problem as long as you eat other stuff also like vegetables, other kinds of meat, drink a lot, etc....

In Greece they eat pork in high volumes and they are still one of the healthiest nations in the world....

Well no one was saying that eating pork is a death sentence. northpointaiki want's proof that it is.

As long as the Greeks keep living like Greeks they will continue to live long like Greeks. But when they copy the american eating patterns, that trend will end.

I'm not really arguing about Pork alone. I'm arguing for a healthy lifestyle. The Greek lifestyle and eating patterns are known to be very healthy. The greek lifestyle is similar to the Sardinian lifestyle that is mentioned in the National Geographic video.

this is what i find so infuriating about religion, it dictates what you can eat, wear, think, and say. would we tolerate that amount of intervention from any mortal authority???
yet many of us tolerate this from some ethereal authority that cannot be seen, heard, or in any way verified.
    complete lunacy!!!!

Oh, please. Please bury away. Thus far, you have presented an opinion from your religious viewpoint, and nothing else.

I haven't provided any commercial links. You have, however, to a doctor repeatedly warned for false advertising, sued for malpractice over unsafely providing supplements (he happened to sell at his office) to a pregnant woman (and only prevailed, from reading the court decision, on a statute of limitations, from what I could tell), and who is regularly slammed by numerous watchdog websites for false health claims.

You acknowledge your SDA status, which has a religiously based prohibition against pork and shellfish, among other things. All fine. Just don't make the attempt to argue science that isn't there.

I have stated from the beginning - improper diet is a killer. I have never argued with you over the consumption of meat in general, only over your characterization of pork as somehow a breed apart from beef and other animal sources, in terms of its microbial load and "nastiness," using your "scientific" term. I repeatedly asked what your actual issue is - pork, meat, or industrial meat - and you dodged it until finally throwing an insult bolt:

And it is this I have contention with.

    Uh, yeahhhhhhh.

I'm arguing for a healthy lifestyle as well. Which is why I quite early on said the SDA lifestyle is a healthy one; as is the mediterranean lifestyle - yet they eat pork (Sardinian sausage: Salsicce allo Spiedo; hams, cured pork of all kinds...hmmmmmm). As I said then, it's about the total choices one makes, not the Great Satan, Pork.

    Glad we agree.

Everything is about balance - which your argument lacks, my friend. And I'm afraid your predeterminations have led you to be grossly disingenuous throughout this debate.

By the way - your avatar - is that white flour in your Pillsbury Dough-Duo? Are you trying to

    and

    LOL

All of a sudden my opinions are a religious view. At first you had nothing but praise for SDAs. Now that I am a SDA, you say my my points are a religous view. Anyway...

Here is more newsy propaganda for you
    1. Feces in pork! http://lib.bioinfo.pl/pmid:16629032

    2. Cancer risk increases with every bit of bacon !
Here Mercola quotes a research paper done by The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, Vol. 84, No. 5, November 2006: 1177-1183.
    '
Here is a portion of the the actual Mercola blog content
Hmmm seems like Mercola eats gress-fed organic meat like you do.

Conclusions from the research: Meat intake and bladder cancer risk in 2 prospective cohort studies
Arguing just for the fun of arguing is pointless. Being argumentative when we both beleive the same thing is rediculous. Instead of arguing, let's try to post evidence that Pork is good or bad.

I am sorry if I hurt you.

pork may be unclean, but hey, the average human eats something like 5 pounds of dirt a year anyway, right? If that is the case, then I ate 6 lbs last night! That BBQ sure was good!!!

Oh, good lord, buddy. Here, I'll reprint, since you seem to have a short memory:

Good lord, part deux. Again, with the misinformation. Your AJCN article is interested in nitrosamines, and bacon, a cured meat, is high in nitrosamines:

Nitrosamines are a result of cured meats, that use nitrites and nitrates in processing - which includes bacon, for godsakes. The article isn't about pork, but bacon - a cured meat. Unless I missed something - does the article mention untreated pork?

Beyond your mischaracterization of the article, there is ample science everywhere, and conclusions are not yet firmly available on anything regarding cancer. Here, a sample:

Study Performed on cured v. fresh red meats and bowel cancer

I don't draw firm conclusions from this, either. I merely point up your article wasn't discussing fresh pork, but cured meat. There are ample studies to strongly suggest a relationship between cured meats from all species and colorectal cancer.

Your other cite, the "feces in pork" article. This one, right?

This the "feces in pork" article you are referring to? And we are again talking about industrial meat production, which we have ad nauseum discussed, and agreed, is foul?

I really am done, buddy. It is obvious you have a problem posting truthfully (that isn't an SDA thing, is it?), and I don't want to waste time either. The evidence is in and plain enough for anyone who cares to to see. All the best.

You call me dishonesty. You totally misquote the scientific text.

This is the full sentence which you butchered. Notice the bold ?
Talk about evading and manipulating the scientific evidence. Pork is also mentioned in the title of the research paper.

    The title is
Bifidobacterium species isolated from animal feces and from beef and pork meat.
Let me stress and pork meat.

Go ahead and question my ability to post truthfully because of my religion. But I'll warn you to stop it now though. The forum rules have zero tolerance for that behavior and I will not hesitate to report you if you do it one more time.

marcel IMHO you really should quit while you're way behind. You are the one distorting the studies, not the other way around.

The study clearly states other forms of animals other than pig, yet you are trying to latch onto just the pork.

Why are you not attacking Beef?....

BTW who could go for some pork ribs with some BBQ sauce about now? :p

Everyone on this thread is talking about Pigs, Pork, Bacon and Salami.

Even you are... You made references to cured meat and said it made you hungry. Nothing wrong with that. Heck, I can remember what I tastes like right now myself - good.

We are talking about Pork from Pigs and meat from Pigs. We don't care if its grass fed or forced to canabalize its kind. You do know that pigs are sometimes feed pig flesh right ? But that is another topic....

Here are some definitions for Bacon.

    www.cookuk.co.uk/techniques/CookingTerms/CookTerms_B1.html
This is the sides of the pig salted and smoked.

and a Google search on "What is Bacon"
Maybe you need help understanding what Pork really is....

    www.lmberault.com/cooking_dictionary.htm
A fabricated cut of the pork carcass, cut from the sides and belly; consists of fat interspersed with strands of meat; is is salted and/or smoked, available sliced or in a slab.

Which is why I included the actual title of the paper, and not your agenda's version of it -"FECES IN PORK!. (emphasis added, for, uh, emphasis). :D

You continually attempt to draw the laser beam on pork based on material that is not about fresh pork, but about meat of all kinds, and generally meat from the industrial chain. I don't know what else to call it but being disingenous.

I do not question your ability to post truthfully because of your religion; quite the opposite. To be truthful, what I said, was:

I was calling into question your behavior here, in contradiction to what I know of SDA principles. Further, you seem to have no problem levelling insults when the mood strikes, yet wish to run to a mod now; please - report away.

Are you sure ? The title says "Bifidobacterium species isolated from animal feces and from beef and pork meat. "

Well the topic is "Why is Pork considered 'unclean' ...?"

Yes other animals are mentioned. But the focus is on beed and pork meat. We are focusing on pork.
