No its possible... Suppose Microsoft approch Google to buy..... Do you think that they will sell? NOOOOOOOOOOOO

It depends on the people....... I dont think that the Wiki people will sell their site or company..... If they want to earn some money then why should they sell the site... they can make billions by selling ads......

Some webmasters just stun me how they have millions of viewers each month, and they dont have a single ad. Do people not like making money? Everyone wants profit, so them saying they are not in it for profit is BS.

Yes... Google could make any site they want.... but it takes some time.... Google is looking forward to a 100% increase in their revenue grouth Year on Year....... So the best way is of course aquisition...........

And also think this way too.... Why Google aquired YouTube.... Do you think that they cant start a video sharing site of their own......????

Before the lauch of FireFox Mozilla was a complte non profit organization... after the success of Firefox..... "Mozilla Foundation has set up a commercial subsidiary to cash in on the popularity of its flagship Firefox browser."

    Source: http://www.desktoplinux.com/news/NS2096324764.html

So why cant Wiki sell ads to fund their projects....... Or donate the money to organizations....... Or to ALL DP MEMBERS :D LOL

Why would google want to buy wikipedia?

They control who visits wikipedia anyway. Probably 90% of wiki's traffic comes from google.

We hate google's love affair with wikipedia.

Wikipedia sucks, it is just content, almost none of the info is reliable.

Some people (wiki editors) just have too much time on thier hands.

Google cant BAN or ignore Wikipedia.... if they do that then it will affect the user experience of Google.com...

    And I disagree with
They have good content with their source and is updated often.... Its useful to get an insight on dictionary words and pharases........ ANd also one more tihng....... They are not here to MAKE MONEY.... its a seervice........

Now a days if we do a Google Search....... the Top 10 for competitive keywords are all SPAMMY SITES............ They achieved their positions purely by SEO and not naturally............ Wikipedia ranks higher naturally..........

Wikipedia will not put any ads in their site, simply because it's against their goal. They are planning to build the largest information database online. I am sure they are now and it will continue to grow.

Now imagine if people visits the wikipedia and then google ads or other advertisements are all over. That will definitely ruin their reputation, and their purpose which could mean their down fall too.

And when that happens I'm sure new wikipedia style sites will take over. :)

You can sell your own ads, so of course it'll be better than adsense. (for some people)
