Hi all, I have searched fourm and found many other topics related to which is best CMS, but i have few different questions. I am planning to open asite which will have Guitar Tutorials. These tuorials will be in text formats as well in video. With forum integrated in it to add a feature of chords/tab of songs. Which is best suited CMS for this purpose? I heard that though Joomla is one of the best CMS available but its not that good in SEO. Which CMS should I go for? Also I am very passionate about how my site looks so layout/template/style/looks of CMS is also one of criteria. Plz suggest. Thanks,
I am a web developer, and I mostly use the Drupal CMS to build sites. With clean URLs and the autopath module (it automatically names the URL based on the title), its great at SEO. You can also get tons of modules to upload and tie into the site for video, user management and tons of features. The best part is that the entire system is open source and completely customizable. The support on the site is great and you can find tons of developers to help if needed. check it out : drupal.org regards, Ron
Thanks for suggestion, Another thing, how easy its to lern drupal? I learnt that Joomla is one of the toughest CMS to learn n understand. Hope this is not the case with Drupal. Would also appreciate if someone can give few links to Drupal community for templates and modules. Thanks again,
Oh! its tougher. anyways can someone give me good and relible site for drupal related stuff . Also if this is not too much asking can someone tell me where i can learn drupal. I mean someplace where basics n some tips are given. Any other suggestions for CMS?
Drupal: http://drupal.org/ Drupal modules: http://drupal.org/project/Modules Drupal themes: http://drupal.org/project/Themes (making a custom theme is not difficult: tutorials here) Drupal Handbooks: http://drupal.org/handbooks Drupal forums: http://drupal.org/forum Drupal help: http://drupal.org/support Drupal can be a little difficult in the beginning, but it's really not that hard. The forums are excellent. Once you get the basics down, it is fairly easy. Most of the people who complain about Drupal don't read the handbooks. The handbooks have everything you need. Drupal is not difficult once you understand the basics. I think it's the best open-source CMS available.
But if you think about it, it may be tougher but in general that means it is more flexable and you can do alot more things with it. It depends if your willing to pay or not.
I personally like working with Joomla. There are many various useful extensions available to suit your need. If you're concerned about SEO, I think there's a plugin that helps better SEO.
AcidicLeo Hello I belive wordpress is a quite good CMS for such site (I'm using it myself for tutorials site) Also, there is a CMS specially created for tutorials. It's called TUTORIALMS and costs 100$. Here's demo if you want: tutorialsge2.myweb.ge/t
If you plan to make it standardized later OR to make it an Online Learning website Use one of the CMS's that are specially used for that Like: Moodle (moodle.org) most famous one Dokeos (dokeos.com) has nice features I like However If you don't want a Specialised one then go with Drupal
No i dont want it to be specialized one. Reason being that though site is online tutorial type site but will contain other stuff too all related to guitar and music. I was always confused whether to go with Joomla or Drupal, now majority here recommend drupal so might give it a try.
I run a guitar site with Drupal that has a tutorial section... feel free to PM me if you have questions.
