i checked it out, its a good system for integration into an existing gallery but i doubt its ability as a standalone script.

I use gallery2 a lot. It has strong SEO potential and has some good plugins. Here's one I built recently http://www.pureanimegallery.com using Gallery2. It's problem is that it needs a server with some grunt to run it.

There's also zenphoto which is much quicker, but IMO - less cool for SEO.

But Gallery2 looks the best possible option.
You may try it and change the looks / styles.

Gallery2 is also available as a 3rd party integration module in Drupal, also in other CMS probably. More options for the future in this way, adding more easely a forum, blog etc.
Other gallery modules in Drupal: Acidfree Albums, Brilliant Gallery, Gallerix, IMCE_Gallery...

Have you tried Pixel Post? I am looking for one to use with my blog right now.

I have use Gallery 2 and it integrates well with Joomla. Gallery 2 is SE friendly too. But I just want to try something new and Pixel Post seems to be a good candidate for my needs :)
