Backlinks and Directories

Do they really give out backlinks? I was looking over some backlink stats and although the website in question had been submitted to many directories (100+), few were being shown to be linking to the website in particular.
This makes me wonder, are they really an effective way of gaining backlinks?

 

Use quality directories and they will show up.

There are too many possibilities on the 100 submission example you gave. Too many things that are unknown to answer that question.

 

Yes submitting directories help you in back links but indexing directories link is show process but there is noting to lose in it..If that link is not index in google, but its will also help you in yahoo and msn.

Just look for a site that is regularly indexed by google...........usually a higher PR Directory will get indexed more regularly!!

 

Many free directoires take weeks or months to approve you links so if you are using directories to build backlinks you will need to submit to a combo of free and paid. Featured listings are good too because they are on higher categories that might get indexed quicker.

100 are low submit to 1000 and wait like 2 weeks you will see results

 

Ohh! This question bothers me too. I was going to open a similar topic.

I submitted my site to about 200 free web directories. By now 35 directories approved the link. I checked a couple of directories and found my link in appropriate categories. Now, when I'm searching Yahoo or Google for inbound links, they find almost zero. I must have missed something important. Can you please help me to find out what it is?

Were the topic pages you were submitted to cached by Google and other search engines and on a regular basis? If not you might well have wasted your time submitting.

Do you have the Google toolbar installed? If not consider adding it. Next to the pagerank bar is an arrow, click on it and then click on cached snapshot of page. This will show you if the page is cached in Google. Do this to the directory topic your website will be submitted in prior to submission.

 

I haven't been impressed with most directories.

 

Submitting does help depending on the quality of the directories you are trying to submit it. Many have mods installed to give you more backlinks through Page Rank / A - Z Pages.

Submitting to directories is beneficial for backlinks but not direct traffic.

If you are patient enough to wait for the directory to accept your link, then for the search engines to crawl and re-index you should see the benefits.
