First doa keyword analysis and find the keywords worth targetting. Analyse the number of searches for the keywords per day and the competition for the same. Checkout the page rank of sites in top 3 positions for the keywords to get an idea of the PR you need to achieve. Then staret SEO - onsite optimizations, one way link building etc. have a realistic estimate and be prepared to spend time efforts and probably money for the same. be patient, it is difficult for a new site to rank top for competitive keywords, no matter what you do.
