So difficult to post links/sigs in forums

I'm really struggling to get my link in forums.

Presumably, I should only be targetting forums which are specific to my site's content but I find may of these forums are understandably hostile to anyone trying to send traffic away from their sites (especially to a competitor).

Does anyone have any suggestions ?

No forum is hostile to members putting their links in posts and sig files.
    But every forum has RULES!
    This forum has rules.
About how long you have to be a member before you can have links in posts, sig files, etc.
How many relevant posts you must make before you are allowed to have links in posts, sig files, etc.

Just follow the RULES of the forums you are in.

Is that so hard for you to do?
Or is bitching here about the fact that forums will not let you post links or sig files more fun?

You need to add value to the thread, or forum. Don't just submit a post saying "visit my site or die." Contribute to the discussion, otherwise you're just spamming..

Wow. I wasn't expecting such a severe response.

It's self evident from the number of my posts and the nature of my question that I am a newbie when it comes to marketing a website and as such any question I might ask is likely to be something that might appear blindingly obvious to you but not so much to me.

I wasn't "bitching" (as you so eloquently put it) about not being able to put sigs/links in forum messages I was simply saying I was finding it a struggle.

The general consensus appears to be that forum sigs/links is a reasonable way of link building but I have found in my niche sector that many of the forums I have looked at already have affiliates or links that benefit the owner of that forum and for that reason they do NOT want members trying to encourage people away from their site (especially a site in the same sector that they are in).

You say no forum is hostile to members putting links in their messages and that rules have to be followed. You're arguing about semantics here as the bottom line is some forums do NOT want links/sigs in messages and that is PART of their rules.

Is this as charming and helpful as you get ?
