Hi, my server has a 100mbps pipe (not dedicated, 2tb a month though and I'm nowhere near that) and my bandwidth seems to be limiting itself. On torrents I can get 2.5mb/s down and 96kb/s up. When I download from my server either FTP or HTTP I get 200-300kb/s usually, max I've had is 500kb/s. Also, my upload seems to be capped at 45kb/s on FTP and HTTP. I'm using Cent OS 4 and WHM for my Control Panel. Any ideas what's wrong with my server? Thanks!
That's probably a good idea. Another contributing factor might be the geographical location of the data center where your server is located and the location of you/your computer. If you can, try to get some friends who are in other parts of the world to test the speed of your server and see how the speeds compare.
Hi Shared lines... Your server provider will put you on a shared line with the other dedicated server clients. This causes an obvious traffic jam... ( To keep it simple ). Technically, you can utilize the whole download/upload speed via a local box within the same datacenter. However your dc's outgoing lines are smaller/flooded.
