I was told that .com and .net domain names rank higher in the search engines. I prefer .com anyways and stick to that at all times, only because it's easier to remember, but why do search engines look down on other domain names?
Google doesn't bother about the tld. You'll see more .com and .net on the front pages because they're the oldest tdl around, not because they have a special place in Google's heart.
i also don't really care about this, however do prefer .com and .net since they're some old tld compare to others tld.
its not true. search webgames4u and i am the .co.nr/.co.cc one, and you can see i am above the .com one
I would prefer .com for companies site or for business. And .net for another type of site, mm for example i use it for videogames sites.
I have seen .in .nz and other tld domains listed ahead of .coms. It has got to do with domain age and again the quality/ relevance of content.
Search Engines don't look at the domain extension/s as standard basis for ranking a website. The domain might be a ccTLD or anything new out there and they are equal (talking about domain extension/s), IMO.
