Quality of Digg has fone down now as it just seems to be plastered with banner ads now.

No it isn't. Think it was a tempoary tech problem. I see the Google ads now but they were gone for a few days.

DigitalPoint forums was banned from adsense. Just two days ago, Google reinstated back. Don't just say it's technical problems when you have no proof to show.

I claimed DP was banned, because there were many people using adsense preview tool to check the ads on this forums url, and the ads still didn't show up. This obviously meant DP forums was banned. This is not to mention I asked someone working in Adsense Team to confirm the ban. Also not to mention Shawn replied to my post but did not deny that DP forum was banned. All hard evidences are enough, but hey ads on DP forum is now reinstated. Let's not talk about this more. ;)

    Cheers!

Thanks for clearing that up - was there an explanation for the ban?

Hmm, this thread brings up some good points that I hadn't been considering:

    - No adsense = freedom from various rules
    - No adsense = no Google cut on advertising incomes
    - No adsense = simple ability to sell text links if Google serps are not traffic source
    - No adsense = not looking like a small time MFA style site

Not true... any ad network is going to have rules. They all do. If you run your own ads, you'll still have your on rules. :)

Any ad network is going to take a share of the income... why shouldn't they, they've done the work to get you the ads. Most people with Adsense running spent about 5 minutes to place the ad code in their site and then forgot about it. If you sell your own ads, you are spending time to do the selling... that has value I would think. If you weren't doing it, you could be building another site during that time.

Not really... their rules are related to the search engine. If you mess with the search engine rules, you may find that your site gets less traffic from Google. Traffic from Google has value. You may find that not trying to comply with the search engine rules makes you site of less value, and therefore limits your text ad selling ability.

I'll give you one there... but if you run other text ads, then whats the difference. To me, a list of totally unrelated and obviously bought text ads on a page makes it look trashier than a relevant Adsense ad. The only text ads I would ever sell are ones related to my site that I think my visitors would have interest in.

The key to all of this is to diversify. Sell direct ads. Run Adsense. Run CPM ads. Run contextual ads. Run anything you can with good balance, and then you won't be tied to any one stream. Say you do all direct ads and you end up losing the customers for some reason. Then you get nothing. Adsense for years has been my top performing network, and then over the last 2 months I've made a concerted effort to diversify. The great thing is that I've gotten Adsense now is only about 10% of my income. This is a good thing, because for the last several weeks they've been down for me by about 25% or so. If I were still dependent on them, I'd be out a lot of money. The other good thing is that I'm making a lot more by having all the streams.

You dont like something ditch it and get on with life
But adsense has become a necessary evil
    U dont have a choice
Let me add, it is a nice system for beginners to start earning those greenbacks and then diversify, diversification is what even google says in their webmasters testimonials
But let me tell everything is not evil about adsense, adsense has the right to monopolise since they invented this adbrokering system, others have only copied, so i feel till someone stands up and gives them a competition they have all the right to terrorise you LOL
Cant help it till the advertisers opt for adwords as they find it very transparent and wholly loaded in their favor, we publishers have to live with this

Hm it seems that this might change Randy. In your blog you are saying that you are making 3 times more now with subscriptions than AdSense?

Congratulations anyway.. Go go go for your first $10.000/month! :)

But not all advertising is done through networks. Sometimes you can bypass that altogether, and set your own terms.

There are other effective alternatives to Adsense if you build your site correctly - have taregted traffic and are a leader in your niche.

Private ad sales and affiliate marketing can really kick in then making adsense obsolete - JohnChow.com is one example.

People who run their websites exclusively on Adsense should definitely find ways to diverse. The two main reasons for that: firstly to make much higher revenue, and secondly to avoid going bankrupt if banned from Adsense.

I was always stuck to Adsense because I believed it was paying me more than any other programs combined, and in particular I was lazy to sign up and try the alternatives. If you fall into my type, I bet you will make much higher revenue if you try other alternatives.

there are a lot of websites out there that are not affiliate-friendly... for instance, what would you sell on youtube.

Adsense is a good all round earner but it definately does not represent the highest potential earner for a website.

    Affiliate Sales
    Private Ad Sales
    Own Products

These will often perform much better than adsense ever can.

    Yup, agreed.

Adsense serves only contextual text/image ads. I learned from successful websites that there are over 20 types of ads you can run, and when I run most of them on my websites, my revenue jumped up 1000%!
