When people receive a private message, does everyone receive the box that says you have received it and asks you to open in a different window? I see lots of threads where people say "PM sent" and "PM received/replied to" .. but if everyone is notified on PMs there would be no need to write this.

People do that just to +1 their post count.

There is no need to post those and the mods have been handing out infractions for people posting those type of messages. A move which makes a good bit of common sense to me.

I think the popup notification is an option that can be turned on/off. Even so you still have the little message under your login name that tells you they are there.

pm sent posts are classed as bumps and you get an infraction and posts deleted, sometimes you get 5 infractions if you do it more when it has been pointed out to staff

I must admit that I did that also the first 6 months that I was here then I discovered this neat little feature called thread tools at the top of every post that allowed me to subscribe to a thread without posting drivel.

Everytime someone else posts to that thread it shows up in my user cp.

Take it for a test drive. I suggest you not get email notices as they sure can add up.

there is a difference in saying pm sent and pm me, the pm sent is a bump when the op does it, but pm me is an actual request for more info when others are interested in the offer.
if the op requests you to send them a pm, you get an infraction for saying pm me in the thread

It's like how when people say "ATM Machine", when the "Machine" is already included in the "ATM". It's a redundancy of the human psyche that forces us to repeat our thoughts.

Yes from experience, you get and infraction for saying PM sent. I did not do it to increase post, I did it to point out that the OP requested PM should be sent with the price and information but a whole bunch of others were posting their information. I did it with the sentence as you requested to try to point out the obvious to the people posting. However, a rule is a rule (most of the time) and I took the infraction with a grain of salt.

However, PM sent should not be left or you will most likely get an infraction. I think they should give infractions for posting when the op asked for a reply by PM but that is not a rule.

I think some DP members tested this out and the report was a bot picks up the phrase "PM sent" and maybe a few others similar to that and auto-infracts (infraction was given within 2 seconds of posting).

I guess it is best to avoid it altogether in the BST section.

    Col :)
