Hello Im kind of lost here with these automated blogs, they would copy your unique articles, post it in their blogs and provide you with a linkback at the buttom. Its great from backlinks point of view but not so great when you want your unique content to stay unique ! I don't know. Do I go with it or block/contact these blogs !
Contact them... I think if you want unique content don't allow them to copy posts. It would be good if they only post a perm. link to your post...
Hi, I am also suffering with the same problem. See this is my original article in my blog, this blog copied my content (I can't find my link also...). See the date of posting of both the blogs. I have posted on Dec-1st. The other blogger posted on 2nd Dec-2007. I don't think this is perma link...
Its some automated blog so im not sure if it even has a contact page and the domain whois might be hidden. Anyway, this has been going on for a while and I really got sick of it TODAY because 12 hours ago, I wrote: How to upload files to your virtual private server ? Now, if you search google for "How to upload files to your virtual private server ?", the number 1 in the results is some automated blog that copied my content the second I posted it ! Yes, he is linking back with a permanent link at the buttom of the article but what good is it for me, if he's the one getting all the traffic and im no where to be found !
If there is a link, don't worry about it. Hell, I don't even worry about it if they don't link back. Look at it this way: your content will get indexed first. So you will always beat them in search engine rankings. So logically, the best source of traffic they can hope for is returning visitors- and what kind of visitor would keep returning to an automated blog? not many. If there is a link back, it aids your PR and seo, so don't worry about it.
I always go after them. I often charge for reprints, so they directly damage my income stream, and cheapen the value of my work (which I charge quite a bit for with anything unique). There's a lot more to it than SEO benefits. On the rare occasion where I can't find any contact information, I leave a comment right on the blog, so anyone visiting knows it's an illegal copy. Even without contact information (you don't have to give them advanced notice to take it down), you can still contact the search engines to have the page de-indexed. If they're using adsense or another ad network, you can also often have their account banned by reporting them.
If they fail to remove your content contact their web host. They are infringing on your copyright and the hosts don't like that.
A backlink is not compensation, especially if it's coming from a crappy website. Those blogs ruin your credibility and like, jhmattern said, cheapen the value of your content. So, I go after everyone I find stealing my content.
Visiting the cheater's blog and posting that it is a place with stolen content is a good idea. I did it a couple of times with good results - cheaters left my articles out of their webs. In other case I got a good compensation, but I had to treaten them with reporting the issue to their Intrnet Provider.
I left a comment on his/her blog and lets hope for the best. I have also contacted blogger.com about a certain blog, that has copied all my articles. Im sure they will remove it since the guy is also linking back to my blog as the original resource, but lets hope it won't take them forever to take action. zac439, thats what I use to think as well, until google index-ed the automated blog first and gave it top rankings. Now, I will start contacting/reporting any blog that would copy my content, even if they link back ! As latoya said: A backlink is not compensation, especially if it's coming from a crappy website.
HOw do you find out that this happening to your blog? I always deny trackpacks/pings from these types of blogs but how do you deal with wholesale copying?
Well, I currently have to ways to know about this: 1) Since im using wordpress, Technorati is always showing me blogs "Admin Dashboard", that are linking to my blog. So, I would check these blogs. Most of the time its these automated blogs that would copy your content and linkback to you at the buttom of the article. 2) I search my articles "titles" in google. Most of the time, my article page would show up in google results and if someone else has copied the article, it would also show up in the results.
Well, I also faced the same problem. The only way for the readers to differentiate it between an original and copy blog contents is to look at the date. It really frustrating at times.
I'd have to agree with senaia. Posting it first, doesn't mean it will be indexed first as the ass stealing your content probably has a host of sites linking to them to ensure quick indexing. A simple backlink for content swap sucks big time.
That statement is completely incorrect, whichever one Google spiders first will get indexed first and there is no guarantee that your site is the one that Google hits first especially if your content is being auto-copied from RSS feeds to dozens of other "blogs".
