What do you do when you run out of ideas?

I like to think I'm fairly adept at finding new and creative ways to promote my sites, but I'm just at a loss on this one. I've got a site that's been up for a month and it's indexed in G, but I can't get anywhere with my keywords. I've done all the normal stuff for promotion, and some new stuff I haven't tried before, but I don't know what else to do. I'm flat out of article ideas to write and submit. Should I just keep working on backlinks?..I've got about 1200 in the first month. I'm not even going after a competitive keyword phrase...only about 700 intitle competitors, but the ones at the top are big PR sites. Any suggestions what I can do at this point? or does it just need some more time to see some initial results.

If you're out of ideas - maybe you should try to focus on something new for now? It's what I tend to do... and I end up coming up with more stuff when I get my mind off of thinking too hard on another site.

Do you have a group of friends, co-workers, etc. that would be willing to help? If so, have a "brainstorming" session. Pick an objective of what you want to walk away with and just have everyone start throwing out ideas. Creativity sparks more creativity so hearing other ideas will most likely generate new ones for you!

    Hope this help! :)

I guess it's not a matter of being out of ideas, but I have a site that I just can't get ranked for my target keywords, and I don't know what else to do to try and get it on the first page of G. I'd take the 3rd page of G at this point, but it just won't get ranked. Anyone else run into this problem...because this is the first time i couldn't get a site some sort of SE ranking for it's keywords.

I like the idea from Clickbooth B. My usual tactic is to get the people in my think tank to start bouncing around ideas. It is very helpful to see things in a different light.

Yeah that's a great idea, but I work with a bunch of internet handicapped individuals who can barely navigate to a site they want to find, let alone come up with ways to increase search engine rankings. I'll just keep building backlinks and submitting articles where I can. Eventually I've got to break into the google rankings somewhere.

I'll take a look at them and see if I can find anything.

Its only been a month. Give it some time. One of my sites was like wayyyyy far on the list and now its on the second page after 3 months. And Im gonna bet it gets to the first page soon..... And I havent done much to it except link exchanges with similar sites.

    Good Luck

So you think just keep building backlinks is really my best option at this point. Do you submit to directories, or just try to find similar sites to exchange? Similar sites in my niche are competitors, so they won't want to do link exchanges I'm sure.

I never really run out of ideas. It's quite annoying really as normally when I go asleep, I keep thinking on things that I can do to improve my visitors/sites further and always come up with new exciting ideas. The problem with that though is that sometimes it can take some time to get to sleep as I'm back on writing some of the ideas down.

I think you will get better results with the passing of time. I can see you have devoted a lot of time to SEO techniques and, sooner or later, they will pay off. What is the site URL? What are the competitive keywords you have been working on? I may be able to help.
