If that's the case then we can't very well talk about UN resolutions now can we? ;)

He was in the end bending over backwards. Weapons inspectors, spy planes, etc could go where they wanted, when they wanted. Someone however wanted war, so that's what we got. It wasn't Saddam who wanted war ;)

Sure we can.. Having a governing body that delivers ultimatums without backing them up is pretty useless. That was my point.

If you scold your child and say I mean it, you have to "mean it"... Telling them not to do something only to back down and keep saying "I mean it" every time they continue to do it does not accomplish anything useful.

If the UN is going to create a resolution, it needs to be prepared to enforce it if necessary.. Again, that is the point.

Yes, the end... When he was in the hole in the ground.. Prior to that he was ignoring everyone, eventually kicking all the weapons inspectors out of the country. Saddam wanted war, make no doubt about it. That is what he lived for... That and extravagant palaces at his peoples expense.

Nope, Mia you really need to look back at what happened. Before we invaded Saddam was in fact bending over backwards. That is one of the main reasons we could not go to the UN to get the approval for war as Saddam was for the most part complying.

Weapons inspectors were able to go anywhere, at any time. Spy planes were given free roam. The only things were some records for the most part called incomplete.

Saddam did not want war, who wanted war was the US government.

There is no reason to 'back them up' when the child is doing what is asked of him ;) Saddam was doing what was asked of him, taking it up the axx hardcore.. BEFORE we invaded..

LOL looks like you been PIMPED by the crazy gang.

The only thing that justifies their sad neocon supporting existence is posting BS rep.

Guess it gives them a HARD ON.

Mods can actually see who gave you that rep, it's not nice at all getting a comment like that but just return the favour back, remembering not to do it in this P&R forum or General discussion because if you do it will not count as red.

GTech left me an unsavoury rep the other day so I did the fool back by doing an expedition and finding one post from him that was out of this P&R forum. It took some time to find one. ;)

Sorry that is simply not true.. If only hind sight were 20/20... Since when does the US need the UN's approval to defend itself?

Again, not true. They were kicked out... Prior to that they were shown only what Saddam wanted them to see.

Again, untrue. The US spent nearly 14 years trying to solve these problems diplomatically. We were extremely patient. To patient in fact.

He was not doing what was asked of him. If he was, we would not be at this juncture. How soon we forget.

Protect ourselves from what? No American soldier or citizen had a chance of dying until we stepped foot in Iraq.

Give away red rep to people that disagree with him is as much power he has and as much as he will ever have. This is just a forum, in real life I can only imagine how frustrated he must be for not getting enough attention. So he comes here and spews red rep on those who disagree with him.

    Yup.

He makes up for his weener size by giving out red rep.

It's actually quite funny to see the guy spending most of his waking life defending a scumbag like Bush in a subforum of an internet webmaster forum. :D

Which brings up the obvious question: why is he here? There are plenty of RP forums to troll.

Well, I say at least his efforts no matter how distorted, miss-guided or self serving make him feel better about himself so at some level if it helps him deal with his inner troubles than I say we are helping him by giving him some of our time and attention, so maybe we are helping him a bit?

When he's not around the discussion, you guys somehow mention him.
He gets the biggest attention here, thanks to you, AGS and many others, without him participating in certain threads.

Somehow, i think it's the other way around. ;)

Ask the mod that banned him.. If I had a duplicate account, both would be banned.

The US was defending itself? Really now...
I also never said the US needed permission, we however could not get UN approval as Saddam was complying more than he ever had..
TOTALLY false. Mia this is simply totally false, the weapons inspectors were taken out not by force but told to withdraw by the UN because of the US ready to attack. The weapons inspectors were able to go anywhere and everywhere.

Sorry but you are totally wrong yet again, the inspectors had free reign, we decided to attack anyways.

Actually he was bending over backwards, we had free reign, spy planes, weapons inspectors. I'm not forgetting a thing ;)

It's not as easy finding articles from back then, however the fact is that the weapons inspectors were not kicked out this time around. The UN withdrew them because of Bush's warning.

    http://www.iht.com/articles/2003/03/20/t1_39.php

Why this incorrect information still persists is beyond me. I see so many who think that Saddam kicked the inspectors out this time around, when the facts of the case are that the inspectors had more power than ever. It was the US who in fact forced the inspectors out, NOT Iraq.

This is point one, it is proven without a doubt. I'm sure you can find some twisted blogs trying to claim that Saddam forced them out, that however is not even remotely the case. Years ago he had, not this time around.

    U2 sply planes
    http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4158/is_20030211/ai_n12675154

He allowed spy planes over Iraq right before we were going to invade. He was doing everything to avoid war. I mean WTF this gave us even more power to take him out, marking any and all targets before the invasion. It's pretty logical and easy to see we used this information to invade, not to find 'weapons of mass destruction' How on earth could anyone say someone allowing spy planes over their country without restrictions is not complying....

UN approval? Approval for what? We do not need, nor have we ever needed UN approval. Yes, the US was and is defending itself.. It is a preemptive defense intended to stave off any future threat.. Do keep in mind that a de-stablized mid-east DOES affect the US and the rest of the world. Why do you think the US and USSR spent so many years trying to keep each side in the Iran/Iraq war at a stalemate?

We have every right to defend our interests... I'm not talking about oil directly. However, the sad reality is, those who control that particular resource, if they get into a position of power that overwhelms their neighbors, comes back to hurt the US and other parts of the world.

There is no question in my mind that Saddam had to go. He had invaded his neighbors before, and may likely have done it again..

Worse yet, after Saddam, can you even imagine if one of his looney, drunken, rapist sons had gotten into power? His dictatorship was also a monarchy of a sort.. One of his sons would likely have inherited the virtual thrown..

Make no doubt about, both of them were 10 times worse than Saddam.. The US invasion of Iraq is no different in my mind than Truman dropping a bomb on Japan.. It was done to protect future US lives, interests, as well as the interests of those in the region, and Europe.

History take a long time to analyze without the benefit of hind sight. In time, viewing both cause and effect, as well as the eventual outcome is the only way we will truly know if this was the right move. It is very easy, (actually POPULAR) now-a-days to err on the side of pessisism, caution, and skepticism, especially when we are not the ones making these decisions.

No, it is not totally false... Weapons inspectors were there, then they were booted out.. It was only in the days after it was announced that we had had enough of Saddam's shit that Weapons inspectors were magically allowed back in. By that time, it was way too late.. Saddam, like that little child that never listens, was allowed to do this time and time again..

I understand that you believe this to be untrue, and I can understand why you have taken the popular position in terms of disagreeing with the war. What I cannot understand is why you are defending Saddam.

I'm just relying on what I remember of history.. Not what is popular in the court of public opinion today... Again, hind sight...

No, we did not.. I know you are not forgetting.. What you are not forgetting is what has been replayed, re-written and re-staged as the course of events leading up to the eventual invasion..

The fact of the matter is, that is not how it actually happened...
