If you carefully read Jeff's post, he has mentioned that the list has been updated and I do see news dirs added and some good PS fluctuations.
Why is Business.com so well respected when all the links are redirects? Surely that means you don't gain any PR, only traffic?
Respect is a matter of opinion, however, business.com does appear to be trusted by all the search engines, consequently, the impact of a listing with them would probably be greater than you might expect, Google,via its representatives, has commented against PR chasing,
Romow.com gii.in nobledirectory.com ewebpages.org elegantdirectory.com avivadirectory.com alivedirectory.com directorydump.com forplex.com are topping the list
So for a little nudge up the serps, how do you know its the big powerful directories that can provide that?
They don't use redirects for regular directory listings (paid). They do for featured listings and sponsored listings. I would definitely recommand it.

Because I submit sites to a Directory for SERP improvement. All of above (except Romow) are waste of time.
just because they are penalised doesnt mean they dont improve SERPs. There is other search engines other than google. My zorg-directory isnt penalised in google. Nor is szab, nobledirectory or gii.
So you though submitting to A directory brings you a Serp improvement? Also how sure are you that your sites were proper enough to attain good serp's. Directories do bring Serp improvement and there are a lot of good dirs out there not every dir is penalized and a waste of time.

Went from PR 6 to 3 and does not rank for GII (domain name). Use to be on First page of G00GLE for term "Web Directory". I call it penalised.
