My site went down from first page of Google to 6th page in just 8 hours...WHY?

I notice sites that are basically advertisements on first page, and coincidentally they are also big spenders on adwords.

I wish I could rank on page one of google's search for a single keyword for a site that is just an advertisement.

This happened to me too. My site has been struggling to rank for my primary search term and after a few months I made it to around 130. Overnight a day or two ago, it dropped to 400. It's not like 130 is even anything good but it's a very competitive phrase so I was happy to be steadily climbing. But now, I'm back at the bottom of the pile and have to start all over again.

It's sad that sites with nothing but ads and no real content are the top-ranking results at Google these days, meanwhile those of us who work hard to offer something good keep getting the shaft.

Google is definatly playing around. They keep testings some of my sites for crazy keywords. on and off. Meanwhile they moved alot of the sites to the back of the line.

I think Google is doing an update on a massive scale for a few days. I have noticed a huge change with my few sites. Some site got #1 ranking now and others have their important pages disappear from serps. My blog's pages is still on 1st page so it's ok with me.

Your site may come back to the front few pages eventually (depending on the new content)

Whatever's going on is getting worse, as my site just dropped another 100 ranks within the past few hours. And this is after adding more content and backlinks.

Same thing happened to my blog Netvestor. Since I begun it, it was ranked number one for word netvestor (as it should its a new word) and then couple of days ago sunk to page 5-6 or deeper even. Now my comments and forums posts rank better then the blog itself. Have no idea why just a tiny theory that google does not like word google mentioned too much in blog posts. Thats my best shot.

    It happens with new'ish sites.
Once they start to receive some traffic they get knocked back.
You must then begin a very slow climb back up, and usually by then you got some domain age and aged backlinks and google will let you stay there if all is ok with your site :)

Google will do this with any new site. Reason being they want to see if its worth it to them (google) To rank your site faster than others. They let it stew up at the top to see if you pull in traffic. Traffic = clicks clicks = More money for Google. That happend to me with a site i put up about 1 year ago. With hard work and original content it now stays at the top Give it time and keep up the (Original Content) hard work.

You said " Traffic=clicks clicks=more money for google " does that mean google will have only those sites on top which has adsense ads on it?

I think it's just fluctuating and nothing to cause concern. Within 48 hours I was at rank 130, then down to 300, then to 400, now back up to 270 (for a highly competitive search term). My site is relatively new (4 months).

Note: I do not have any of those stupid crappy Adsense ads on my site.

What is your site's domain age? I'll give it a quick check if you tell me the URL.

I believe that your website is penalized by Google because it is not as per Google's instructions, so follow what Google says.
It says that "If you determine that your site doesn't meet Google guidelines, you can modify your site so that it does "

If you were asking me, my site is "only" 4 months old, therefore it is subject to being tossed around by Google as if it were a piece of crap.
