The new Live search ... I think the jury is still out on the changes and worth or the index. There are a lot of complaints across the web regarding index losses since 10/1. Google dominates. Unlike some dominate players they appear to be making mostly the right moves to stay dominate.

I think it's possible, but would require some sort of mainstream negative attention outside the Webmaster community to start the boat rocking. 'Regular' end users don't really care what happens behind the scenes, and will always represent the majority of income for Google - so until they find something distasteful or inadequate with the way their doing business, it'll be a tough nut to crack.

How long did it take Wal Mart to beat them all? Didn't Wal mart grow because of their cheap prices?
One thing is for certain unless someone develops a better search engine, then they can beat google.

I do not think that is just the case for a better search engine to come and muscle in.
Google is part of our daily life now, kids have grown up with it.
My 7 year old (yeah I have kids) when she needs to find something out she "googles it".
How many people have google as their home page?
Another example is when searching for specific company do you type in their url or type their name in google?
Search market share - google has more than all the other search engines put together.

All I am trying to say that for other search engines to come even near google they would have to start changing our habits. And as long as google has the traffic the money will be there to keep it growing.

And do not forget that all that traffic on google is generated by people who in 95% cases do not even know which links are paid for. So the talk of people turning away from the giant and not paying for advertising is a nonsense. Similar example look at the Internet Explorer - the browser we love to hate.
Most people in this world use IE, and I would not say it is the best one around.

I think they are going to be number 1 for a couple more years to go. The purchase of Youtube consolidated their position very further. For the moment, I don't think others can compete with Google.

Hi ... google is vulnerable. A Microsoft buy out of Yahoo, if allowed, might do the trick. A couple of companies are working on strong AI search systems. Google knows it's vulnerability is public opinion. It gathers and stores too much normally private information.

The current US administration is paranoid, so the idea of access to tons of citizens makes it feel warm and gushy. The next administration, almost for sure, will put citizen rights above gov't intervention. The info google possesses quickly transforms into a liability from an asset. Citizen groups will clamor for destruction of google-held information and implementing limits on what search engines collect and store, in the future. All this will take a decade, but during that time google grows increasingly vulnerable to competition, if for no other reason, than distraction.

China, by far, is the biggest web market. To the extent google shares what it gathers and stores, with the gov't of China, it's safe. The US will put enormous pressure on google to not share with China. A search engine system, with the blessing of the Chinese gov't, will over run google. Again, a decade, during which google grows increasingly vulnerable to market forces.

Last for now, a hundred years ago, there were a score of companies, with more market share and overwhelming influence than google could imagine; for example, Standard Oil, JP Morgan, Vanderbilt, DuPont, Pullman and the list goes on and on. Today, these companies are competitive and profitable, but shadows of former stature. In our fast-fast-fast-paced world, it won't take a 100 years for google to fall to the ordinary, but maybe a decade.

Am I full of it, tonight, or what?

No one is unbeatable. Corporation who have better idea, planning, implementation and execution, will be on top.

LOL... guess and hope you're right...

but Microsoft (my personal favourite) has to win back people's hearts... a lot of them are highly annoyed by the bugs their products have...

    essentially...

would you mind giving a few insider details? ;)

All you need to beat google is a new idea and extremely hard work combined with some luck. If Google can do it, so can others!

if there is money and the internet remains capitalistic, than yes, someone will eventually take over Google. The longer you are on top the more and more people (companies) are looking to knock you off. It will take about 3-5 years but I bet it will happen.

Its political, google pretends that they dont bow to that but they do, they and the governments have an agenda, its an understanding between them and its not to benefit us.
