Tips on internet marketing for a beginner - asking the DP community.

Discussion in 'General Marketing' started by ennergi, Dec 3, 2007.

  1. #1
I'm currently in IT, and I'd like a career change (with a kid on the way, I need to be able to work from home). I've been pretty inspired by a lot of the success stories posted on DP about internet marketing, and thought I'd give it a shot. Unfortunately, I don't know much about it, so I thought I'd ping the DP community for suggestions and tips.

The basic questions I have are:

    1. How does one get started?
    2. What does all of the terminology mean (landing page, ROI, etc.)?
    3. How do you find a niche to advertise in?
    4. What are the best ways to bring in traffic, and what are the best ways to generate revenue?
    5. Do you need a base website, or can you just create pages for specific niches, paste advertiser ads on there and use some method to bring in traffic?
    6. What's the best way (or software package) to track all of this stuff?

Any web references that someone could point me too, even, would be great. Any help at all will be very much appreciated.

    Thank you!

First, start searching through the forums. Use the search function.
    roi = return on investment

I'd start with bum marketing, because it's easy. www.bummarketing.com Also check my first url in my sig. That's an easy way to earn some extra cash. Mostly paid through paypal so you can invest in Ebooks about internet marketing :)

I see you've got a blog so that won't be a big problem.

Oh and use google, there are Loads of articles available on every question you asked :)

First and foremost, a very good reason to become a MoreNiche(TM)
affiliate is the simple fact that there is no risk involved for you
whatsoever. There are no products to buy, no money to invest and
you can start without even the most basic knowledge of marketing.
That's not to say that you won't have to learn a thing or two later
on, but you don't have to be an expert to start your business.

Try http://track.lativio.com/hit.php?w=116726&p=2&s=45 in your browser. Everything a person needs just starting out. You'll be satisfied!:D:D

You need to spend serious time reading forums like this one. Start with someting you are already good at? Writing? Data entry? and build from there.

I think the easiest starting point is to start a free blog at a site like http://www.blogger.com on a topic or hobby you're interested in. Once you start getting some articles and photos posted you can begin experimenting with marketing techniques.

You can make a ton of money on the internet you have to make sure you are hooked up with the right mentor. Let me answer some of your questions.

    1. How does one get started?

The first thing I would do is research what you want to do. There are a lot of money making opportunites out there. Before I jumped into what I am doing now I did a lot of research. I made sure I had a mentor that was doing well himself that could show me and now I am the one showing people how to make the money.

    2. What does all of the terminology mean (landing page, ROI, etc.)?

Landing page is a capture page. Here is an example: http://www.mrmoneybags.net

With all the advertising I do such as pay per click, forums, press releases, craigslist, back page and other forms of advertisng I receive on the average 200 opt ins a day.

A landing page will is meant for you to collect names and emails so you can send them a message through and auto responder such as aweber that I use.

    3. How do you find a niche to advertise in?
There are a lot of forms you can advertise. From magazines to online advertising. It also depends on what you are selling to. Once I know what you want to do I can be more of help to you.

    4. What are the best ways to bring in traffic, and what are the best ways to generate revenue?

Free advertising is the best advertising but its sometimes the hardest. If you are using craigslist or others you can have issues with trying to post ads due to the fact that craigslist is getting harder since they do not want people spamming their site with thousands of ads. Its possible to do you just need to have a system in place. Lot of the top money earners use pay per click on Google and even Yahoo is getting great results to.

    5. Do you need a base website, or can you just create pages for specific niches, paste advertiser ads on there and use some method to bring in traffic?

Most sites I come across have a one page sales letter and then an area to make the purchase. I use google checkout and have had good experience with Pay Pal. It will also depend on what you are selling. A lot of sites have an affiliate site so you can create a capture page that is one page and redirect it to your web site.

    6. What's the best way (or software package) to track all of this stuff?

Testing! Testing! Testing! This is the main key to be succesful being an online marketer. You must be able to track your results. You can use your autoresponder. A lot of them have built in tracking or you can find some in a search engine.

If you have any more questions please contact me anytime.

My advice would be to find the product or niche that you would like to promote, then read over this forum before promoting it. There is a lot of helpful information from experience marketers on this forum who have been doing this for years and had a lot of success.

indeed, so many inspiring stories about internet marketing now.
but this thing is not a "enter now and earn right away".. this needs hard work and patience..

of course, you must be resourceful enough too to find ways and ideas on how to get traffic, visitors, a good earning and more.

    1. Create a product people want to buy... Boil your product idea down to one keyword and make sure when you search for that keyword in the search engines there are PPC advertisers.
    2.
    3. If your starting out don't blow your wad on advertising an untested sales page/product. Get some free traffic going first.
    4. Blogs are great and so is article marketing for generating free traffic. Sell your own products and build your own customer list.
    5. I prefer a website for each product sales page and the blog as a "base" page that links to all the product pages.
    6. Don't worry about that... let your payment processor like Clickbank or Paydotcom handle all the tracking and stuff. You just sell the product and collect the checks.

I suggest you check out the link in my signature if you want to learn by actually doing it, how this is done.

One of the best ways to get started is by your own website or blog, and then make money with AdSense. The only thing you must do is to upload a good site and promote it. It works by itself if the site is interesting.
