Using Adsense on a high traffic site - but little money from ADSENSE

    Hi guys

I have a site that is ranked #2 in google, and has traffic of approx 700-800/unique visitors a day (and keeps growing as this site is new)

My problem is that not many people are clicking the ads:

    I have:
    - very top left corner text links box
    - then a a link bar across the page
    - then 250x250 ads within all the copy..

is maybe adsense not the right thing for me? what other ads marketing do you think i should go with? or do you suggest I wait to see..this site has been live since September 2007...yes I did a lot of optmization and keyword research to get this lucky! :)

    thanks

It depends on your niche too. More information on that will be easier.

Hi I'm facing similar issues. Not trying to take over your thread but I want to know more about this subject to! So now I can view it in my subscribed threads. :)

Maybe somebody knows of a list where you can see what kind of traffic would generate (estimated) revenue. And for what traffic and what niches certain programs would be the best fit. Because in my little experience, I have seen that in some occasions AdBrite would do better then AdSense; if you have considerable amount of returning visitors that browse through multiple pages.

Well that's understandable, however I don't think that you'll get a good advice if your url is unknown. Maybe consider giving it to some trusted DPmembers in PM.

Otherwise the advice will be like: try different ones like Azoogle, Adbrite, Copeac. If you have an interesting website without a lot of good competition but with great advantages for advertisers, I'd recommend putting your advertisement spot for sale on the Adbrite marketplace thing. You'll see how much people are willing to pay if you do :p

I also think it has a lot to do with who the audience is; gender, age, where they are living, etc.

we can't give good advice if we don't know your url. It could be your layout, colors and a host of other things...

You may want to post the URL so we can help you. Also check out Adsensechat.com. That is Joel Comm's Adsense Forum and he is one of the biggest adsesne guru's there is. Also go to youtube and lookup the user "JoelComm". He has a bunch of adsense videos. This may help you out on tweaking your site.

If adsense is giving you a low income... (really we need to know what you consider low) then change it to azoogle or some other ad company and see if your income increases. I would test it out in 30 day increments. Try one for 30 days, and then try another. If after 6 months one gets more income than the other, I would use it. You may also want to tweak your ad offering to coincide with the time of the year. Some months may be good for adsense while others may work better for azoogle or some other ad company. You really have to stay on top of your site and test and tweak, and test and tweak, and keep doing that 'til you get carpel tunnel.

Another thing you may want to check out is ClickTale.com. It will record users actions on your site. so you will know which ad locations are working the best. Hope that helps. :D

Can you try using the 160x600 skyscraper ads, preferably on the left-hand side of your pages, above the fold? For me, that's my best-earning AdSense format. Also link units across the top of the page, within the content area.

That's not really high traffic. How many daily impressions + pageviews? You should look into Kontera.

maybe its not high paying keywords sites, no matter how much traffic u get with keywords that sucks, ur earnings will sucks too..try adding one new page on that existing sites that have high paying keywords and relevant to ur niche..put an interesting banner that will lure them to go to the new page

I'm sure that someone has posted a list of the highest paying keywords on the forum. Use the search option please for that. And about the environmental site, maybe you try getting paid links on your site?

Thanks for the Rep. :D I would post a pic of Rodney Dangerfield so the title would make more sense, but I am at work. Maybe I'll do that later.

I had adsense on my IT Consulting site, and I know I was getting around 1.00+ per click. Maybe you should use that program I mentioned and see if what is happening on your site. You may have better luck with Per Click instead of Impression based adsense.
