I'm going to compile a list of the best 50 directories in terms of traffic without any reference to PR, alexa or any other crap... Starting from the idea that traffic is much more important than anything else and listing your website in a directory with lots of traffic might result in a few clicks to your own website as well I'm going to do this list which offers a good alternative to all those PR based lists from submiter point of view. How does it work? The list will be updated on monthly basis and the submissions will only be received between 1st and 3rd of each month. If you would like to have your directory listed, you will have to do a quick print screen with the traffic your directory had in the previous month...then submit a clickable link where I can see the screenshot... The directories will be listed in order from 1 to 50 depending on the traffic they had the previous month (uniques and visits). I will also add your submission prices and a link to your submit page. So... if you have nothing to hide and you think your directory is not worthless in terms of traffic feel free to submit your print screen to Top 50 Traffic Directories List If your directory will make the Top 50 then it will be listed on our page. Please note...you can submit any type of directory you like, free, paid, bid, niche, etc...On this list just traffic counts Thank you
Nice idea Loredan but I don't think you can compare paid and free directories in terms of traffic. Submitters are not interested in the webmasters browsing free directories to submit to. A better criteria I think is the referrals from search engines, this gives a better idea on the QUALITY of the traffic.
This is the eternal excuse I hear from directory owners...unfortunately it doesn't stand from my point of view. Running a paid directory it means that you get paid for review and at the same time you'll have to promote your directory 10 times harder than a free one. Advertising, promotion = traffic otherways what is the purpose of a paid directory? Getting money only for what? As an example...I haven't seen so many free directories yet getting even closer to Alive's or Aviva's traffic! As a matter of fact...I have started to promote Zyas Directory about 3 weeks ago and I've had nearly 3000 uniques which is pretty good for such a new project...so from my point of view...taking this as an excuse it looks pretty unprofessional... Nothing different Aspidov, just another way to list directories based on something that no one took in consideration yet when it came to building a directories list. I never said it's something different...for me things are pretty simple in life...you like the idea and think it's worth your 3 minutes to load a screen shot then feel free to submit - you don't like the idea then move along but don't come with these childish/silly sort of questions like "what's so different?" Thanks
As I said loredan, you are not tackling the quality of traffic. Of course if your target is directory owners than yes webmasters looking for free spots are a targetted traffic. I don't see the fact that your traffic doesn't get a big hit when you are not served by google as a good sign. It shows the type of traffic you get, a direct traffic which is of course from webmasters. However your ranking is better than alexa's since it is based on actual numbers
Received and added OMG guys...you should see Bruce's stats! I'm speechless Well done! Yes Tarek, I understand what you mean...hmm...perhaps I should add another box in my list for the SE's referal traffic...that would definately mean more quality. I really apreciate your sugestion...thank you
Loredon i always though directory lists sorted by traffic would be nice. There are however several problems :- People all use different stat programs - how do you set a standard and know which shows the best accuracy? Does traffic mean directory A is better than directory B as it gets 100 more each day? Does traffic matter if it carries a 80+% bounce rate - meaning no traffic gets carried through to listed sites. Is the traffic real? We can all pay $50 and get 10,000 fake visits a day.
You can also pay for adwords, .. But you can't pay for organic traffic from search engines. That's my point
Why are SEs so vital when it comes to traffic? You can advertise with other methods and drive traffic to listed sites.
Of course you can do that, but will you advertise for webmasters to submit to your site or to regular visitors for your listed websites? SE traffic is so vital because it is low cost and targetted.
Mikey, I think only God can answer to all your questions above 1. Obviously I don't know which one is better in terms of acuracy but just checking the stats is much more realistic that Alexa, I'd say... 2. Yes...if directoryA gets more uniques than directory B on monthly basis it means that directory A is better in terms of traffic. 3. My list at this moment is not able to show the bounce rate so I preffer not to discuss this as I can't find any solution at the moment... (mhamdi, help! ) 4. Who's gonna be able to check if the traffic is real or not with so many sophisticated ways to get this sort of fake traffic? Obviously I'm 100% against this but at the end...it might still be better to invest some money in this fake traffic instead of not investing at all (I know...silly answer)
Check out www.5business.net. 3,375 uniques, 11,750 pageviews. I'll send PM you a screen shot from Google Analytics. Thanks.
erm, There are at least 2 directory lists out there that place a widget on your site, and measure your actual traffic they give remarkably consistent readings eg http://www.digitaldir.eu/ look at the banners at the bottom I've been thinking of using them if i can get my traffic to be more than just embarrassingly low
Those are "Top Sites" scripts. Personally never used any of them but I very much doubt on the quality of their readings...
And most importantly of all Can we submit in bulk (link wise and to the directory) And can you submit the links for us if we can't find the time to do so ourselfs?
I'll try it out on one of my directories There figures are more consistent with what I know about the expected traffic for directories at this level
Hi Loredan, that is really a nice list compiled there, and great idea of ruling out the Pagerank parameter. Are you also considering to add bidding directories to the list.
You are the one crying and wining in here when you got offended from a reasonable question. Your list provides 0 quality or purpose to anything except link bait for your so called "video directory". Whats the point of your list? You can't even prove the stats you are getting, why should I use your list? Try to make something useful at least.
