I RECENTLY HAD A CONTRACTOR POST THIS PROJECT ON FREELANCE SITES. I THOUGHT I WOULD POST IT HERE TOO...

If you don't clearly demonstrate an ability to write well in your first PM to me, then I'm unlikely to respond. The request does clearly indicate that I'm looking for a "talented writer". I really look forward to hearing from potential writers!

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

My client is one of the fastest growing media companies in the UK, recently listed in the top FT top 500. We're looking for talented writers that have the energy, passion and skill to meet deadlines, to write quality copy and work with us for years to come. Think you've got what it takes?

    Are you:

    1. Able to write in fluent english?
    2. Able to understand why we don't accept things for tomorrow when they're due today? If your lazy we recommend you do work for other GAF buyers -- seriously. If you're the type of writer that does work for buyers that need 5 articles here and there, that's fine. This is a serious job, not for time-wasters.
    3. Willing to work hard, have an attention to detail, and want to work your way up within our organization?

    Price:

We pay $2.50 per article and expect ten 500 word articles, 20 days per month - that's $500 per month. Every month. Want to write more? You can write an unlimited amount of articles, as long as the quality remains high.

    Bonus:

All of our staff receive a yearly bonus based on output quality, deadlines and commitment to the company. Work hard and you'll be rewarded with cold, hard cash!

    Can I work part-time?

Yes, potentially, please respond with how much work you can do.

We're a company, can we bid?

Yes, respond with how much work you can do.

    This project:

This project is our way of testing if you have what it takes to work with my client. And, we're willing to pay for it! This project is for...

    1. 50 Articles of 500 words each. That's $125 in total.
    2. We own full copyright to all articles.
    3. We expect delivery within 7 days of accepting your bid. Why? Because if you're too lazy to write 50 articles per week then we don't want to offer you a job. Remember lazy sellers should opt for other projects, working for buyers that require 5 articles here and there!

I look forward to hearing from you!

    1. Full copyright to all articles submitted.
    2. Fluent English.
    3. Minimum of 500 words per article.
    4. 50 articles in total.
    5. Delivery in Word or .txt format.

Anyone bidding for work accepts that they will own no copyright to their work in any projects the now, or into the future. All copyright belongs to us. Should anyone contact us regarding this project they're accepting 100% that they will own no copyright to their work that is commissioned through us.

No kidding. This is slave labor and the OP is selling it like they are doing a favor for writers. And it's always the same copy that they peddle: you need to be a professional -- but we won't pay you professional rates.

Interesting stuff. Why doesn't everyone show me evidence that this isn't an acceptable rate in certain parts of the world? Apple pay their staff in India less than $200 per month, however when I offer 3 times that I'm seen as some kind of scrooge. Get your facts right, present me with evidence that's low, and let's continue the debate from there.

I've sent you a PM, and while I would agree that your rates seem rather low, you do offer the option to write as much as you want, which may yield a higher income than spending half your time searching for well payed projects with a fraction of the work available. Plus Christmas is coming, which is why this is appealing atm.

Excellent post. Please no one work for these kind of rates; you're just degrading yourselves.

Any 'talented' writer should be getting 'talented' rates. :)

The problem is that some people have dreams of making millions working from home typing away on their computer. They think they can write, they learnt that at school, therefore they consider themselves to be professional writers. However, one problem, that's BS.

It's also funny that everyone who claims to be a "professional writer" does their graphic design for their website on their own or on the cheap. Buyers are supposed to respect them as writers but their websites look like they were designed by a 5 year old in MS Paint. They won't pay for graphic design, but buyers are supposed to pay a premuim for their writing. Same with SEO, the "professional writers" outsource article submission and directory submission. Yeah, that's SEO :)

So it's ok for multinationals to pay people, what you perceive as, low wages as long as they work in-house? It's funny none of the professional writers never send me links to newspapers and magazines as examples of their work. Unless, that is, ezinearticles.com, is coming to print any time soon.

Our company employs writers that write for English langauge asian publications. They know what it's like to work under an editor. You guys, who hijacked the thread, think an editors role is to make sure the word count's reached 500 and that Office isn't showing any red underscores. Get a life guys, and let's hope maybe you can get a real job one day too.

Any "writer" with half a brain cell would be articulate enough to address the main crux of my post. Let's see some signal, and less noise, in any responses.

Very, very true. I see content on web pages all the time which have some serious problems with spelling and grammar. Word isn't perfect, you have to actually check your grammar sometimes, even if it does take more time! Its also really terrible when you look at an article as think, "Wow, he says the same thing three times in three different ways." That means the writer is simply writing for a word minimum, not for the topic. What is the point of writing 500 words if only 150 are important?

About the price, it's actually not that low guys... I have seen much lower on here.

Nowhere in your original post is there a requirement that one needs to be based in Asia or India to be employed as a writer for you. If you later want to lob statements that the rate you're paying is acceptable for a standard of living in certain areas of the world then be up front and state that you are looking for writers from those places. Otherwise when you ask for writers that are fluent in English and are supposed to meet professional writing criteria like meeting deadlines and giving you full ownership of the copyright, don't get mad when people like me and others on here call you on being cheap. You're quick to accuse people that don't want to work for slave wages that they need to get real jobs. Well, I'm here to tell you that your job won't pay real bills for the majority of English-based writers in the world, which is again a criteria that YOU asked for in your posting.

You want to specify that you are seeking Asian-based writers because you are paying going market rates for countries in Asia, then by all means state it in your job description -- otherwise I will call you on it, and that's exactly what I did. Frankly I'm sick of seeing employers on here exploiting writers for the lowest price that they can pay, asking for the moon (perfect English, professionalism demands and full copyright ownership) and then get huffy about it when it's pointed out that the rate that they are offering isn't the going rate for that kind of service. I suggest that if you don't like it you can get a real job that can afford to pay for the services that you require.

Who would expect to find a talented writer that works at half a cent per word? That's $0.50 per 100 words! It's ridiculous.

A person would have to write three 500 words articles per hour just to make $7.50 per hour. Those three articles would be horrid, and the writer would be barely making minimum wage--which no talented writer would do.

While I see that everyone has now admitted defeat, and accepted this is an acceptable wage for the Asian market, let's move onto the next point...

Chant, why should I have to specify who is suitable for the job just so that your ego doesn't take a bruising? The sad thing for you, sir, is that the market sets the prices. And, unless you can differentiate yourself your going to have to compete with people who can write just as well as you can for a fraction of the price. If you are a better writer than those who can work for these rates, then why not get work elsewhere? Good luck selling your text link in your sig strip, your on to a real winner there. If you can't sell that, with over 1000 posts, maybe you should see if there's any jobs going at McDonalds this christmas. I hear they pay well.

Scotthughes, I will bite my tongue. If spokenword is your blog then OMFG, ever heard of a comma splice? If it's someone else then congrats on selling a text link in your sig strip! Your on to a real earner there.

I don't think you know what a comma splice is. It's grammatically incorrect to use comma splices, and I do not use them on that website as far as I know.

Because it's common sense that if you can't afford professional English-speaking rates, specify it in your OP and subject title. That way you do not waste the time of writers and yourself. And my ego has very little to do with it; I've said that you cannot afford my professional services so really, there's no ego to bruise. The only one that has anything to lose is yourself: reputation of yourself and your company for not shooting straight with your freelance employees.

I am. And frankly in my experience the better paying employers are also more trustworthy.

If it's cheap enough to buy, pick yourself up a sig link and have one of your 0.005 cent writers type it up for you! =)

    I love that:p

Actually I charge many times more than what you are offering. While I did charge much less when I first started writing, I don't believe I ever worked for less than a penny a word. In my area, it's not feasible in terms of earning a living to work for less than 3 cents per word, and that's really pushing it a bit.
