Would this signature link be effective?

I am thinking of including my signature link in forum posts. I am thinking of putting two sig links to the same site (with two different anchor texts), one to the home page & another one to one of the inner pages (deep linking). Do you think this would be helpful for SERPS? If I did this (two sig links in one post), would this carry the same weight as If i had only one link in two posts?

Thanks bogs... I have never used signature links before... is this usually not allowed?... could you clarify in what other sense it may help.

forum sigs generates only a small percentage of a positive outcome to your site, not to mention when its nofollow. there's nothing to worry about in putting up sigs as long as you read the forum guidelines because forums has its limitations in putting up the number of sigs.

It helps from the SEO point. Althoug putting two sigs for the same domain may not be a good idea.

Link/s in the forum I am interested is dofollow... If it adds up (even if it is a little) I will follow through. My real interest in the forums is to get well involved in the forums & promote my business among the forum members, not directly but indirectly when they see my link (if they like what I say). Following the fact that I will be using the link signature, I would rather use it the best way possible, that's why I am considering adding two links to it...;)

Aspire, please let me know why it may not be good or in what sense.... I do not want to do anything which may harm my site... this is why I am asking this in this forum before proceeding this way...

    absolutely correct.
every post that you make make your 1 backlink for each site that you put in your signature.so it helps to raise your backlinks.

So if I had two to the same site in the same post, these would count only as one??? Considering that I am linking to two different pages in the same site. Home page & an inner page... Which one of the two pages would get the credit?

I think its a good idea to have two links for the same site, this way you can help search engines understand what each page is about, but probably not worth it for an already established domain with many backlinks

Thanks Chios, my site is a relatively new site... Excuse me for asking... I see you are promoting in your signature one of your inner pages (of a new site)... Is there any reason why you prefer to put one of your inner pages rather than your home page?

I see no reason not to have 2 links for the same site totally agree with this.

had 3 links in sig in other forum and around 3000 posts there, never done me any good, just removed them 3 weeks ago after i heard that might be penalty on G.

maybe Gbot visits ur site more often but 1000 links from 1 domain doesnt sound 2gd if u ask me..

Signature links help get traffic to your site, but I think you need thousands of posts to have an effect on the SERPS.

Well I have lots of links from same domain (sitewides) and I don't think they did any harm to my sites, but you could very well be right ...

But about the effectiveness of the signature I was mostly thinking short term... to make the engines see the site faster, after that links can be removed ...

THank you all for your help...

Cool_78 & Duddits, thanks for your post. However, I am a little puzzled here. Duddits says that too many from the same forum is not good... Cool_78 that I would need thousands from the same forum to have an effect... Any other opinions?

Why would it not have an effect long term?

Have you been doing it for long? Have you seen any improvement in SERPS which you can relate specifically to forum posts deep linking?

    Midi,
I ain't no expert in this but, this is what I do

I put a signature link to my site for the purpose of the engines finding it fast
and associating it with that anchor text

Unfortunatelly only one anchor text per signature link so
in terms of SEO its not much more worth than ONE SINGLE Link
(when it comes to traffic it might be worth a lot more)

After I try to find other places (lots of places) to include that link and anchor text
and other anchor texts if I can (permanent links if possible)

Those permanent links will probably be picked up much slower
unless they are paid links on High PR pages

when I am sure the signature link did its job and the Permanent links have already
been crawled (at least some of them) then I can use the signature for something else

So in other word I am REPLACING the signature link with other permanent ones of
    varying anchor texts

    Hope that makes sense

UPDATE: the claim that sitewides were actually bad for SEO I have only heard recently and Investigating.
But I would assume if you had a mix of links (sitewides and reciprocal and 1 way links) then it should not be a problem ...

It's good for traffic, but the effects on SERP's is basically zero. They are low quality or rather junk links, and all it will really do is increase your backlink count. If you think 100 unrelated outbound links on a PR0 page is great, your really struggling for backlinks.
