Question: Should I make an E-Book or use the content to get traffic

I have a dilemma and perhaps some people out there in General marketing land can help me.

I have some good content for my niche due to personal experience and I want to get it out there to the masses and make some cash in the process. I see two options and maybe some people have advice.

One- I could create an E-Book with the content and promote it on my website and via PPC. It would be my first E-Book, but I know I could make something of quality and sell it for a decent price and people would like the info.

Two- I could take all the content, put it on my website for free, and then monetize the traffic through affiliate deals and advertisement.

Or three- maybe both? Can you just re-package content on your website and then re-sell it as an ebook?

Any advice with people that have done this would be appreciated.

I think two because the time of selling E Books is over .
A lot of fake people selling books all over the net so i don't think you will have any success with that .

I think you risk losing your unique content if you place it online for free, but the same applies to an ebook. In fact, most ebooks are just regurgitated material from other ebooks with someone elses name on it and their own price. There are several people that still do well selling ebooks, the problem is that you better be willing to give it out for free originally to promote it. Then if people like it, you can start selling it. Too many people create an ebook and don't sell any because everyone has already been scammed at least once from them. A few real positive reviews goes a long way here on DP.

I was thinking that you could do both. Maybe send out a free ebook with a newsletter they sign up for?

OK the niche has nothing to do with how to make money online, or anything that so reviews on DP wont really help! But you have valid points.

So I could make the e-book and then promote it via give aways, etc until it gets good reviews on websites and forums in its niche. THEN I could try and sell it. I like that.

Then I can also put really similar content on my website because hey, its a free ebook anyways.... and I could collect some emails in the meantime.

If there are two ways to make money, why not do both?

Can I ask what the ebook is about? or do you want to keep that a secret for now?

Make two eBooks. One should be free, for a few reasons. It should be useful, but it should also hint at the greater detail provided in the purchased version. Good content will establish your authority on the subject, and lend credibility to you as an information vendor. It's hard to avoid seeing eBook scams online, and you'll need to overcome the stigma if you want to pursue this.

On the off chance that your readers haven't seen the scams before, a free version will also allow your users to become familiar with the concept of eBooks if they haven't used them previously.

Don't make your sample too long or you will push away the impulse buyer. You don't want your users getting bored or putting off their actions for a later (read never) date. A dozen pages is good, and don't do the wide margin with an overly huge font size trick to inflate your material. Instead offer two versions. One should be a screen version with a larger font (sans-serif) and quick rendering. The other should be a print version made at 200-300dpi, with a typical reading font size (serif) and an eye on the margins. Use professional software, like Adobe InDesign. Word just doesn't have the same flexibility.

Your free version works as a marketing piece for you, with calls to action every couple of pages. If your content is good, your readers will want more and be willing to pay for it.
