I had an idea that I don't see on other forums. I thought it would be cool if members could rearrange the order of the categories on the main page based on their own personal preferences. That way they could have their favorite categories on top. Might be easier said than done I know, but doable.
Since Digitalpoint is using the commercial vBulletin forum software, I believe this would require heavy modifications.
That would be a heavy mod for DP (vBulletin) Especially the amount of catagorys there are! Just minimize the catagorys by clicking it in the right hand corner and you don't have to view them
It is a neat idea but the amount of modification it would require would not be any benefit to Shawn. I doubt he will make such a change because the forum is already a huge success. Normally modifications of convenience are done only to build up a slow forum, this is not the case of DP.
use can use the upshrink button top right of each category you do not post in, so you dont have to see them. the forum jump on the top left lists all the forums, remember not all forums are listed on the home page
^^^ Don't listen to that n00b. Shawn has modified his own version of vBulletin used here a lot. I know he can definitely do what you suggest but it's really not necessary since you can subscribe to forums that interest you, and you can minimize unwanted ones.
Those two are the combined correct answer as vB stands today... However, there was a random thread on vB.com that was discussing something akin to this using AJAX (as the technology is there). I'm willing to bet that it will be a fully featured option in vB 4.0 as at least one of the staff there thought it was a nifty idea. Of course I no longer recall the thread it was talked about in, and I'm not on the vB team...so my answer here is just a guess.
I guess the shrink buttons will have to do...I was just thinking in my.yahoo terms where you can move things around where you like.
Subscribe to the forums that intrest you sure, but that dosen't change anything on the forum home page. Me and samantha pia said the same. So you would be calling both of us a "n00b"
